Job Description
OverviewBlockhouse and Castaway Portland are neighboring event venues located in NW Portland. We are looking for a dependable, friendly, and hardworking Venue Host to help oversee events and support clients, vendors, and guests throughout each event.
This role manages venue operations during events, including load-in, event support, and closing responsibilities. You'll serve as the on-site venue representative, helping ensure events run smoothly from start to finish.
This position primarily consists of evening and weekend closing shifts, often ending around 12am 1am, with occasional daytime opportunities available.
We are a growing company and expect to add additional venues this year, so reliable transportation and flexibility to work at multiple locations are important.
ResponsibilitiesGreet clients, vendors, and guests with professionalism and warmthOversee venue operations during eventsCommunicate with clients and vendors throughout events and help address needs as they ariseHandle guest questions or issues calmly and professionallyComplete opening and closing procedures according to venue standardsMaintain venue cleanliness and organization before, during, and after eventsSet up and tear down venue inventory, including tables and chairs, ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
Monitor lighting, temperature, restrooms, and overall guest experience during eventsClose and secure the venue at the end of the nightSend post-event recap emails after each eventComplete training on venue procedures, equipment, and policiesQualificationsExperience in events, hospitality, guest services, theater, restaurants, or related environments preferredStrong communication and customer service skillsAbility to stay organized and professional in fast-paced environmentsComfortable with physical work, including lifting up to 40 lbs and moving tables/chairsWillingness to assist with light cleaning tasks as neededAvailability to work evenings and weekends regularlyReliable transportation and flexibility to work at multiple venues as the company growsStandard shifts are Thursday
