Host / Hostess Job Description Capri Pizza - Hilton Head Island The host is the first and last impression of the restaurant. This role sets the tone for the guest experience by providing a warm, organized, and efficient welcome while maintaining flow of service throughout the dining room. Primary Responsibilities Guest Experience Greet every guest immediately with a genuine, friendly attitude Maintain a clean, professional appearance and positive energy at all times Manage waitlists and provide accurate wait times Seat guests to tables while engaging in light, welcoming conversation Thank guests as they leave and invite them back Seating & Flow of Service Manage table rotation fairly and efficiently Communicate clearly with servers and management regarding seating Understand table numbers, sections, and server assignments Avoid over seating or overwhelming the kitchen/bar Adjust pacing based on volume (tourist rushes, slow periods, etc.) Restaurant Awareness Have full knowledge of the menu (basics, popular items, allergies) Be aware of daily specials, promotions, and events Recognize regulars and returning guests when possible Cleanliness & Organization Keep host stand clean, stocked, and organized Maintain cleanliness of entrance, waiting area, and menus Assist in light cleaning during slow periods Ensure restrooms are checked periodically Team Support Communicate effectively with servers, bartenders, and kitchen staff Assist with running food, bussing tables, or resetting when needed Stay aware of the overall restaurant needs and jump in when necessary Key Skills & Qualities Strong communication and people skills Ability to stay calm under pressure Organized and detail oriented Friendly, outgoing, and professional demeanor Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment Expectations Be on time and ready to work Maintain a positive attitude, even during high volume shifts Represent the restaurant with professionalism at all times Prioritize guest experience above all
