Job Description

This position is responsible for the overnight operation of the 24-hour residence hall desk. The Night Host performs administrative functions as directed by staff (including, but not limited to, the Resident Director and Assistant Director(s)), responds to student needs, and maintains a secure building. This position provides quality customer service to residents by sharing general Housing and Residence Life policies, procedures, and information with students.
Primary Responsibilities/Functions:
Safety & Security Functions Provides customer service in the hall by greeting students and visitors and providing directions or other general information Observes doors and common areas for security issues or concerns, and contacts police or other appropriate resources Acknowledges and notifies campus police of fire alarms Performs other duties as assigned Serves as resource person who makes appropriate referrals and answers the main desk phone Keeps Resident Director informed of pertinent occurrences/incidents and responds to crisis situations as directed Assists the professional staff (Resident Director(s), Assistant Director(s), and others) with the day-to-day clerical needs of managing a residence hall complex and department, as directed by supervisor Oversees the complex key control, as instructed by the Resident Director Clerical Functions Handles inventories and notifies the Resident Director of lost or missing keys Assists students locked out of apartments to gain access to their rooms Understands basic housing processes & procedures and able to articulate to inquiring students and staff If the answer is not known to a student question, this person is to actively seek an answer on the student's behalf, when practical Assists the Resident Director with check-ins Adds charges to student accounts for lost keys, lock outs, and damages, as instructed by the Resident Director Administrative Functions Assists students locked out of apartments to gain access to their rooms Understands basic housing processes & procedures and able to articulate to inquiring students and staff If the answer is not known to a student question, this person is to actively seek an answer on the student's behalf, when practical Assists the Resident Director with check-ins Adds charges to student accounts for lost keys, lock outs, and damages, as instructed by the Resident Director Competencies/Qualifications Knowledge of office organization and procedures, phone etiquette, typing, Microsoft Office Suite, sorting and filing Ability to function under pressure and constant interruptions Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent customer service skills Knowledge of university resources Ability to learn specialized housing & university software (Banner, RMS/Mercury, DASH, etc)
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma. 1+ years of clerical/office experience or security experience is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree. 3+ years of clerical/office and security experience. Experience working on a college campus or university setting. Previous experience working overnight. MR04 Anticipated hiring salary: $34,000 - $38,674
