Job Description

Key Responsibilities Greeting and Welcoming Guests:
Hostesses provide a warm, friendly first impression, setting the tone for the dining experience and ensuring guests feel valued and comfortable
Seating and Table Management:
They coordinate seating arrangements, manage waitlists, and guide guests to tables or bar areas based on availability and preference
Reservation Handling:
Hostesses manage phone calls, book reservations, and maintain accurate records of guest bookings
Customer Service Support:
They may take initial drink orders, provide menu information, answer guest questions, and address complaints calmly and professionally
Maintaining Cleanliness and Organization:
Ensuring the host stand, entryway, and dining areas are tidy and welcoming is a key part of the role
Team Support:
Hostesses assist servers and other staff during busy periods, including refilling drinks, running food, or touching up tables
Additional Duties:
Depending on the restaurant, hostesses may perform cashier duties, introduce guests to servers, or explain menu items
Required Skills and Qualities Excellent Customer Service:
Ability to interact politely and professionally with guests.
Organizational Skills:
Managing reservations, waitlists, and seating efficiently.
Communication Skills:
Clear verbal communication for greeting guests, answering questions, and coordinating with staff.
Calm Under Pressure:
Ability to handle busy periods and guest complaints without stress
Knowledge of Menu and Restaurant Policies:
Familiarity with offerings and procedures to assist guests effectively Work Environment Typically fast-paced restaurant settings, including casual and fine dining. Shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays Reports to the Restaurant Manager or Floor Manager and works closely with servers, bartenders, and kitchen staff Summary A restaurant hostess plays a critical role in shaping the guest experience , balancing hospitality with operational support.
