Resort Director Location:
Spearfish Canyon Resorts (Includes Spearfish Canyon Lodge, Latchstring Restaurant, and Spearfish Canyon Adventures) Position Summary The Assistant General Manager (AGM) plays a key leadership role in overseeing daily operations at Spearfish Canyon Lodge, with primary responsibility for front desk, housekeeping, and lounge/bar operations. This position ensures exceptional guest experiences, efficient team performance, and strong operational execution. The AGM will be primarily focused on lodge operations, while also providing support and leadership assistance to other resort departments—including Latchstring Restaurant and Spearfish Canyon Adventures—as needed during peak periods, special events, or staffing gaps. Key Responsibilities Lodge Operations (Primary Focus) Oversee daily operations of the front desk, housekeeping, and lounge/bar Ensure high standards of guest service and satisfaction across all guest touchpoints Manage staffing levels, scheduling, and labor efficiency within departments Handle guest concerns and resolve issues promptly and professionally Maintain cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness of the property Work closely with department heads to ensure consistent communication and execution Team Leadership & Development Lead, coach, and hold accountable department supervisors and team members Assist in hiring, onboarding, and training staff Foster a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment Conduct performance feedback and support ongoing staff development Operational & Financial Oversight Monitor labor costs and assist in controlling departmental expenses Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and service standards Assist with inventory oversight and ordering as needed Support budgeting goals and operational efficiency initiatives Cross-Department Support (As Needed) Provide occasional operational support or leadership assistance at: Latchstring Restaurant Spearfish Canyon Adventures Assist during high-demand periods, events, or staffing shortages Collaborate with leadership across all departments to ensure a cohesive guest experience Qualifications Previous management experience in hospitality (hotel experience strongly preferred) Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple departments and prioritize effectively Experience with scheduling, labor management, and team supervision Guest-focused mindset with strong problem-solving ability Willingness to be hands-on and adaptable in a dynamic resort environment Work Environment & Expectations Full-time, year-round position Requires evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs Fast-paced environment with a mix of administrative and hands-on responsibilities Must be comfortable stepping into operational roles when needed What We're Looking For We are seeking a strong, dependable leader who thrives in a hands-on environment and can take ownership of lodge operations while supporting the broader success of the resort.
