Job Description

Position Summary Requires Professional Animal Care Experience This position is a Weekend Position currently scheduled 7am-6pm Saturday and Sunday. Offering a minimum of 24 hours per week and potential of up to 36 hours per week (3 days on 4 days off) The Lead Kennel Technician is a senior-level animal care professional responsible for overseeing daily kennel operations while setting the standard for excellence in animal care, cleanliness, safety, and team performance. This position combines hands-on pet care with leadership responsibilities, including guiding kennel staff, monitoring workflow, assisting with training, ensuring facility standards are consistently met, and serving as a point of contact between kennel staff and management. The Lead Kennel Technician plays a critical role in ensuring every guest receives exceptional care and every client receives the highest level of service. Reliability, initiative, and leadership are essential. Our guests depend on us, our clients expect excellence, and this role helps ensure we deliver both every single day. Key Responsibilities Animal Care & Facility Operations Provide daily care for dogs and cats including feeding, watering, administering medications as directed, and monitoring overall health Monitor guest behavior, appetite, activity levels, and physical condition; promptly report concerns to management Safely handle animals of all breeds, sizes, temperaments, and energy levels Bathe, brush, and dry dogs as needed Walk, exercise, enrich, and socialize pets appropriately Maintain exceptional cleanliness throughout suites, daycare spaces, play yards, bathing areas, and common areas Wash and fold laundry, sanitize dishes, and ensure all care areas remain fully stocked and organized Follow and enforce all safety, sanitation, and animal handling protocols Leadership Responsibilities Serve as shift lead during assigned hours Delegate tasks and ensure staff are working efficiently and thoroughly Assist with onboarding and training new kennel technicians Provide coaching and support to team members to maintain performance standards Conduct routine quality checks of completed cleaning and animal care tasks Identify workflow issues and communicate solutions to management Help ensure all opening, mid-shift, and closing procedures are completed correctly Model professionalism, urgency, and accountability at all times Client Experience & Administrative Support Assist with check-ins and check-outs Communicate clearly and professionally with clients regarding guest needs Capture high-quality photos/videos of guests for client updates and social media submission Assist with maintaining accurate care notes and internal records Address minor client concerns professionally and escalate larger concerns to management Qualifications Prior professional animal care experience required (kennel, daycare, boarding, veterinary, grooming, rescue, or similar environment) Previous leadership, supervisory, or training experience strongly preferred Must be 18 years of age or older Strong understanding of animal behavior and body language Ability to confidently handle animals safely and compassionately Excellent attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness Dependable, punctual, and able to lead by example Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills Able to work independently with minimal supervision Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and cleaning for extended periods Flexible availability required, including weekends and some holidays Applicants must have no animal-related offenses on their background Preferred Skills Experience administering oral medications Bathing and basic grooming experience Knowledge of canine group play behavior Strong conflict resolution and team leadership skills Experience in fast-paced pet care environments Work Environment This position involves working both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Lead Kennel Technicians are frequently exposed to noise, cleaning chemicals, wet environments, and animals with varying temperaments and needs. This is a physically demanding, fast-paced role requiring consistent movement, quick decision-making, and strong situational awareness. Scheduling Requirements Weekends are required for this position(potential for 1 weekend off per month after 90 days - would be scheduled alternate days) Holidays may be required
