Job Description
Position summary: The Cleaning Rack Supervisor will manage / lead employees cleaning the interior of railcars (tank, hopper , and other railcars) and components using interior blast, steaming, orbital wash, chemical / detergent, vapor scrubbing, dig out, and other systems. Will ensure the team complies with safety standards, quality systems and procedures while meeting or exceeding all business goals and customer requirements.
Tasks:
Plans, organizes, and directs department operations and activities of workers engaged in cleaning railcars to meet safety, quality and production targets. Actively manages and monitors car flow and work center to meet or exceed car flow cycle time goals. Determines the number of hours needed to clean incoming railcars, placement of railcars on cleaning track, tracks and reports daily railcar status updates, and schedules railcar to next stage. Establishes a daily production plan, employee work hours, and manages all work processes to achieve operational goals and customer service targets. Ensures department is properly staffed and equipped with appropriate machines, tools, materials and procedures needed to meet production plan and service targets. Assigns railcars to the team, provides required work order packet, and establishes delivery date. Confirms department is current on required training (e.g., safety, quality, regulatory etc). Ensures employees are appropriately trained to perform assigned work. Trains employees on how to use hand tools, power tools, interior blast equipment, railcar cleaning processes and other appropriate work requirements. Audit work processes to ensure that all work teams meet Customer, Company, and Regulatory requirements. Establish clear communication within and between work centers and other plant processes / departments. Lead and manage all work processes and employees. Follow coaching processes to ensure consistent standards, seek the facts / root cause analysis, and focus on continuous improvement. Manage work teams to meet or exceed labor efficiency goals. Lead by example always maintain a clean, safe, and productive work environment. Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and in safe working order. Pro-actively apply problem solving skills to a) clearly identify the problem; b) use data / facts to determine root cause; c) take corrective action; and d) follow-up on actions implemented. Meet or exceed quality standards on all work that is performed and recognize quality as a key element of customer satisfaction and meeting business goals. Enforce safety rules and lead by example to ensure that all employees meet or exceed our safety standards. Conduct daily toolbox meetings reviewing safety procedures and stressing housekeeping. Completes and submits daily reports that incorporate safety, quality, production, labor efficiency, railcar status, staffing, employee training, budget estimates, cost tracking.Skills:
Ability to manage and lead a diverse team of employees to ensure work processes and operations meet or exceed all requirements and business goals. Knowledge of and / or the ability to learn how to clean the interior of railcars (tank, hopper, and other railcars) and components using interior blast, steaming, orbital wash, chemical / detergent, vapor scrubbing, and dig out systems and equipment. Knowledge of and / or the ability to follow and enforce railcar cleaning procedures; high pressure, AHF and specialized cleaning procedures, SDS, waste handling storage and labeling. Industry knowledge of and / or the ability to learn AAR and FRA rules, and Tank Car Maintenance Regulations and Regulatory requirements. Ability to read, interpret and follow PDS (Product Data Sheet) and SDS (Safety Data Sheets). Knowledge of general safety practices and standards within a heavy industrial environment. Ability to understand and follow all safety rules, wear PPE required for job, and focus on preventing safety incidents. Ability to communicate ideas / information in writing and through speech so that others will understand. Proficiency in MS Office applications with the ability to learn proprietary database systems. Work Environment /Conditions and Physical Demands:
Candidate must be able to perform the following physical tasks: Working around heavy moving equipment Work outdoors in all weather conditions Work in high places and confined areas Climb, squat, bend, twist, and regularly lift up to 50 pounds or more to accomplish work tasks Use of respirator as requiredExperience and Education:
High School Diploma or general education degree (GED).Preferred but not required:
4-year college degree in Business Administration, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science or similar field Experience managing / supervising employees within an industrial production-oriented environment.Preferred but not required:
