Job Description

Environmental Operations Supervisor Location:
Boone, North Carolina | Full-Time | Shifts Vary Why You'll Love Working Here As an Environmental Operations Supervisor at UNC Health Appalachian , you'll lead a dedicated Environmental Services (EVS) team committed to ensuring a clean, safe, and healing environment for patients, visitors, and staff. You'll oversee daily operations, manage staff schedules, and maintain facility cleanliness — all while supporting our mission to provide excellent, compassionate care across the High Country.
Compensation:
Starting pay begins at $18.15 per hour , with competitive rates based on experience and education.
Schedule:
Full-time, variable shifts including weekends and holidays.

What You'll Do as an Environmental Operations Supervisor Supervise, train, and schedule Environmental Services (EVS) staff to ensure consistent quality and safety standards. Monitor work assignments and inspect facilities to maintain cleanliness, infection control, and operational excellence. Manage inventory, ordering, and distribution of cleaning supplies and equipment. Perform light maintenance tasks such as replacing ceiling tiles, light bulbs, and minor repairs. Support the department by promoting teamwork, safety, and accountability. Collaborate with hospital leadership to ensure compliance with ARHS policies and regulatory requirements. Communicate effectively with staff, patients, families, and other departments to support a positive hospital environment.
Qualifications Education:
High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
Experience:
Previous experience in Environmental Services (EVS) required. Hospital or healthcare experience preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
None required.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to read, write, follow instructions, and perform basic calculations. Excellent customer service and team-building skills. Knowledge of cleaning, sanitation, and infection control standards. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions. Physical & Work Environment Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the shift. Lift, carry, push, or pull up to and over 50 lbs. Exposure to chemicals, cleaning agents, and mechanical equipment. Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious materials. May work variable hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
