A Director of Environmental Services plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, secure, and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors throughout the senior living community. Their leadership directly supports resident safety, regulatory compliance, infection prevention, and overall quality of life across independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing areas. By overseeing housekeeping, maintenance, and security operations, they help ensure the community remains welcoming, well-maintained, and responsive to the needs of residents and families. They also lead and support environmental services teams, promoting accountability, efficiency, and compassionate service every day. In This Role You Will:
Ensures the buildings/structural systems, community grounds, emergency systems, vehicles, and other equipment and supplies are maintained, functioning properly and are in good condition. Recommends capital improvement and develops the annual operating budget and ensures the department is operating within budget. Ensures fiscal responsibility in contracting services, purchasing, and the use and control of inventory, supplies, and equipment. Manage major renovations and new construction projects Ensures vacant units are updated/renovated, serviced, cleaned and fully prepared for occupancy on schedule and in accordance with resident selections. Monitors the work order request system to ensure that work requests are completed in a timely and efficient manner. Serves on the community's resident council and/or safety committee, as required. Prepares and submits invoices promptly. Ensure the community is maintained in a clean and sanitary condition in accordance with established schedules and proper infection control and other regulatory standards and provides necessary directions to the housekeeping staff.
Performs supervisory functions:
  • Participates in the hiring, onboarding, and orientation process for new hires
  • Promptly and thoroughly addresses employee corrective actions and terminations in coordination with Human Resources.
  • Provides training, coaching, and supervision to employees.
  • Provides timely and accurate performance management evaluations and participates in goal setting for the employee.
  • Prepares, implements, and monitors staffing schedules and work assignments
  • Administers department and organizational policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.
Must be able to regularly travel around the community and to any/all of BHI Senior Living communities (IN, MI, OH), as needed. Occasional overnight travel may be necessary, in addition to travel to conferences, seminars, association meetings, and other business- related events.
Shift Details:
Fulltime Day shift, Monday- Friday 8a-4p
Who You Are:
A high school diploma or GED equivalent and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in managing maintenance, security, and other relevant functions Must have knowledge of physical plant systems, e.
g:
heating, air conditioning, electricity, and computerized systems. Must be able to analyze mechanical/structural breakdowns and relate those breakdowns to independent contractors effectively.
