POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead Custodian performs custodial duties related to the cleaning and maintenance of district buildings, grounds, and equipment while providing day-to-day leadership of an assigned custodial crew. This position coordinates work assignments, monitors the quality and completion of tasks, and communicates regularly with the Facilities Director regarding operational needs, staff performance, and facility conditions.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs all essential duties of the Custodian position, including cleaning district offices, classrooms, sidewalks, and related areas; sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, waxing, and polishing floors. Provides day-to-day supervision and coordination of an assigned custodial crew. Assigns work and monitors staff performance to ensure duties are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with established standards and expectations. Inspects completed work to verify quality, cleanliness, and compliance with district requirements. Provides training, direction, and support to custodial staff regarding cleaning procedures, equipment operation, and safety practices. Assists with scheduling and work coverage for absences, special events, and urgent custodial needs, as assigned. Identifies and reports safety hazards, repair needs, supply shortages, and equipment concerns to the Facilities Director in a timely manner. Performs grounds-related duties such as mowing, trimming, planting, and watering, as needed. Communicates regularly with the Facilities Director regarding crew performance, facility needs, project status, and operational concerns. Supports compliance with district safety procedures and the proper handling and use of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
Ability to perform considerable physical activity in a variety of work environments. Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities. Ability to climb and work safely on ladders up to 30 feet. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to supervise, direct, and evaluate the work of others. Ability to prioritize work, organize workflow, and maintain productivity for a custodial team. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with employees, supervisors, and other stakeholders. Knowledge of custodial methods, cleaning chemicals, equipment operation, and safe work practices. Ability to identify deficiencies, address routine issues, and report concerns appropriately.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Two years of custodial experience preferred. Previous lead or supervisory experience preferred. Experience training, directing, or coordinating the work of staff preferred. Bilingual preferred.
