Traveling Custodian @ Maintenance Building #1257

DEFINITION

: Under immediate supervisor, performs work of routine difficulty in performing general custodial services in a school plant, and performs related work as required. Position moves from site to site covering open positions due to vacancy or absence of employees. May cover AM or PM shifts as assigned.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

: Sweeps, mops, waxes and scrubs floors Dust, waxes, washes and polishes furniture and woodwork Empties and cleans waste receptacles Washes windows and walls, cleans restrooms and classroom heaters and screens, sweeps sidewalks and play areas Moves and arranges furniture and equipment Clean fountains Polishes metalwork Replaces light bulbs Replenishes supplies Turns out lights and locks doors and windows Reports the need for repairs Watches buildings to prevent vandalism and provides building security Operates power cleaning equipment May do limited grounds maintenance work May make minor non-technical repairs Provides low level maintenance to school property, grounds, buildings and equipment Receives and stores supplies and equipment Opens and closes buildings

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

:

Training and Experience :

High School Diploma or equivalent A combination of training and experience equivalent to two years custodial work

Knowledge of :

Methods, materials and equipment used in custodial work Skills in : Understanding and carrying out oral and written directions Using common cleaning equipment Doing manual work associated with custodial duties Doing simple building and grounds maintenance and minor repair work Computer skills preferred and District email usage required Ability to : Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others Learn and interpret rules, regulations, policies, and procedures Work effectively at multiple district sites

Physical Abilities:

Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 50% walking, and 45% standing. Sufficient vision to read small print. Sufficient depth perception, physical ability, strength, mobility, stamina, color perception and acuity to operate equipment. Sufficient hearing to hear normal, telephone and hand held radio conversations. Ability to speak in an understandable voice and with sufficient volume to be heard at a normal conversational distance and on the telephone or hand held radios. Sufficient physical ability, strength, mobility and stamina to move, lift push/pull or carry objects which may frequently exceed 50 pounds. Sufficient physical ability, strength and dexterity to use basic mechanical and hand/power tools to perform minor repairs and adjustments. Sufficient physical ability, strength, balance, mobility, and stamina to perform moderate physical labor. Sufficient physical ability and stamina to work outside during inclement weather conditions. Sufficient physical ability to reach horizontally and vertically with arms. Sufficient dexterity to use hands and fingers to manipulate small objects and print or write legibly. Sufficient lower body strength, stamina, balance and mobility to sit, stand, kneel, walk, stoop, climb stairs, bend and extend legs for prolonged periods of time. Physical tolerance to extended contact with water, detergents, abrasives, cleaning solvents, cleaning solutions, disinfectants, paint/paint spray, and other harsh chemical substances. Physical tolerance to foul odors, chemical odors, dust and pollen.
