Job Description
Under the supervision of the Custodial Supervisor, oversee and provide work direction and guidance to assigned custodians to ensure that District facilities are maintained in a clean, orderly and safe condition; participate in a variety of custodial duties related to maintaining assigned rooms, buildings, facilities and related areas in a clean, orderly and safe condition. Oversee and provide work direction and guidance to assigned custodians; train new employees to perform tasks and use equipment; assign tasks, pace work and ensure that custodians are on the job maintaining assigned work schedules; inspect finished work to ensure high quality standards are maintained. Inspect District facilities and report hazards, major repair needs, rooms left in unsatisfactory condition by District staff or students and personnel problems to supervisor; requisition supplies from warehouse stores and maintain appropriate quantities of cleaning supplies; work with minimum supervision; maintain routine records of activities as required. Coordinate and participate in a variety of custodial duties related to maintaining assigned rooms, buildings, facilities and related areas in a clean, orderly and safe condition. Sweep, scrub, mop, wax, oil, buff and seal floors; vacuum and shampoo rugs and carpets. Dust, wash and polish furniture, woodwork and metal work; wash windows, walls and mirrors; clean chalkboards and erasers. Clean restroom sinks and toilets; clean shower facilities and locker rooms as assigned; fill paper and soap dispensers; empty and clean waste receptacles. Perform minor non-technical repairs such as replacing light bulbs and tubes, adjusting desks and other furniture and adjusting shades and blinds. Plan and oversee staff in preparing and setting up facilities for meetings and special events; unlock and lock doors to buildings; move, arrange and remove furniture, staging, bleachers and equipment; clean facilities after events. Pick up trash from grounds and exterior areas; empty garbage and trash cans; operate a utility cart and/or pick-up truck to deliver or pick up supplies or equipment and to collect trash. Two years of custodial or janitorial experience. Possession of a California driver's license. (Will be required if considered for the position).
