05/03/2027 This is a substitute hourly position. Employment contingent upon background check and Post-Offer Pre-Employment Physical (POPP) Position Description The Custodian, under general supervision, performs routine custodial work inside and outside of school and office buildings and keeps buildings and adjacent grounds areas in a clean, sanitary, and safe condition.
Compensation:
Hourly rate: $28.64
  • Based on the 2026-27 Hourly, Substitute Hourly, Substitute Daily Salary Schedule Qualifications Possession of a valid California Driver's License or California ID Must possess one year of experience comparable to that of a custodian in a school district English fluency Education/Experience High school diploma or equivalent combination of training and experience in custodial work.
Skills/Abilities Use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency Understand and follow verbal and written directions in English Communicate verbally in English Adjust work schedules to meet unusual conditions Operate equipment used in custodial work Perform heavy manual labor Maintain cooperative working relationships Comply with the physical/mental demands as described on the ADA profile Knowledge Of methods, materials and equipment used in custodial work Examples of Duties & Responsibilities Inspects buildings and grounds; develops and plans a systemic program of preventive maintenance and upkeep Recommends to supervisor the need for district assistance when and where needed Performs minor maintenance, regular custodial and routine gardening work as needed Maintains storage area for equipment, materials and supplies Carries out directions of immediate supervisor Sweeps, vacuum, shampoo, spot clean, scrubs, mops, strips, waxes and polishes all floors Cleans, dusts, and polishes walls, furniture, woodwork, hall lockers and other equipment Cleans, washes, scrubs and disinfects restrooms, classrooms and all facilities as assigned. Cleans windows, door glass and drinking fountains Cleans and polishes metal work such as door panels and hand railings Collects trash; empties and cleans waste containers Moves or rearranges chairs, tables, desks, furniture and other equipment Replaces light globes Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards Secures buildings and gates Submits requisitions to maintain an adequate supply of materials Picks up broken glass and other debris and boards broken windows Receives school supplies and equipment Performs other related duties as assigned Physical Demands (

  • exposure to fumes from cleaning solutions; floor strippers and waxes; dust; dirt and wetness; temperature variation and weather conditions when outdoors; occasional work at heights; and biohazards when cleaning restrooms and cleaning up bodily fluids.
