This posting is specific to the permanent part time position in the City of Oakland. The City of Oakland is currently recruiting to fill multiple Custodian, PT (Part-Time) vacancies within the Public Works Department. Incumbents perform a variety of custodial duties in assigned buildings and perform minor maintenance as required, they respond to request for enhanced cleaning and sanitizing to prevent the spread of germs and virus and ensure clean safe and healthy buildings. Incumbents perform heavy routine cleaning, recycling, moving and setting-up of furniture, and other general custodial duties. The Custodian receives general supervision from a Custodian Supervisor & Custodial Services Supervisor I. We are looking for someone who is: Knowledgeable of health and safety standards and cleaning methods, custodial tools, equipment, and best practices. Timely, reliable, dependable, consistent, and thorough. Multifaceted, and can complete various tasks including cleaning and disinfecting of offices, bathrooms, kitchens, perform stripping and waxing of floors, and able to perform trash and recycling duties. A team player, self-motivated and able to work independently, but can collaborate on shared tasks or projects, and willing to share their knowledge and expertise in a positive way to help boost morale and productivity. Flexible and able to shift priorities to respond to urgent requests or tasks. An active listener and communicator that can take directions in verbal or written form and can communicate respectfully and effectively with their peers, supervisor, officials, and customers. Adaptable and willing to learn with the ever changing environment. Custodial work is routine in nature, but we are always looking for ways to be more effective and efficient. Education:
Successful completion of the eighth grade.
Experience:
One year of full-time experience in building cleaning work. License or Certificate / Other Requirements Possession of a valid California Driver's License. This is an at-will position, exempt from the provisions of the City of Oakland Civil Service Rules (per Charter Section 902f).
