This is a full time, non-exempt, hourly position. Responsibilities and Duties Maintenance and Repairs Perform routine inspections and identify potential maintenance needs within the school building and grounds Fix minor plumbing issues like leaky faucets or clogged drains Address minor electrical problems like replacing light bulbs or loose outlets Conduct minor carpentry repairs like fixing doors, windows, or furniture Assemble and install furniture, shelves, whiteboards, or playground equipment Address minor patching and painting needs like infilling drywall, patching scuffed walls or repainting designated areas Water plants and perform light gardening (weed removal, grass trimming) Inspect trash cans to ensure appropriate items are in each type: landfill, recycling, organic waste Custodial Responsibilities Supply restrooms as needed Clean up areas as needed (example: large spills, preparation for large events, rain days) Power wash sidewalks/pavement and facades as needed Clean windows, glass partitions or mirrors as needed Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures Safety and Security Identify and report potential safety hazards within the school building and grounds Fix minor security issues like loose door locks or malfunctioning door closers Follow all safety protocols and procedures
General Duties:
Maintain clear communication with administration and fellow colleagues regarding maintenance requests and project completion Includes responding to emails or texts within 24 hours Respond to phone calls or phone messages in a timely manner (usually within the hour) Collaborate with external contractors for maintenance and repairs that fall beyond your expertise Includes meeting vendors on site and reviewing issues at hand together Promote a professional and courteous culture while interacting with students, staff, and visitors Maintain a clean and organized work area Shift regular work hours as needed to accommodate repairs that affect classrooms or other spaces used during the school day Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Experience and Requirements High School degree or GED preferred Experience with cleaning materials, such as soap, detergents, and solvents Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of methods of cleaning floors, lavatories, and other areas of school buildings General grounds maintenance practices, experience with machinery and equipment Ability to safely use common power and hand tools. Knowledge of basic carpentry skills. Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems. Attention to detail, positive attitude and strong work ethic. Self-starter with good time management skills, well organized and apt at problem solving.
