CUSTODIAN - FLOATER GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Performs a variety of custodial and maintenance duties at a school building; does related work as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform a variety of custodial and maintenance duties at a school building; do related work as required; assist in the maintenance and upkeep of the physical condition of a school building, grounds and equipment; clean, sweep, dust, mop, scrub and wax interior walls and floors; wash windows and polish metal and wood; collect and dispose of rubbish; shovel snow, cleans walks and grounds; lock and unlock premises as directed; move furniture and do simple repair work; set up tables and chairs for activities requiring such; service boiler and oil burner and set master temperature regulators. may drive, clean, and perform minor preventive maintenance on power mowers, snow plows and similar equipment; safeguard school property from vandals and users of the building. May sand and finish floors; spot-patch walls and woodwork; paint offices, lounges, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of materials and methods used in cleaning and of the use of manual and power-driven cleaning and polishing equipment; ability to use tools and mechanical equipment used in making minor building repairs; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to perform moderately heavy manual work; ability to enforce regulations firmly but courteously.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Second shift position to begin as soon as possible. Monday through Friday, 3:00-11:00 p.m.; except for days during school breaks, including the summer break, when the hours will be in the day shift as assigned. The first 90 calendar days will be paid the probationary hourly rate of $25.09. After successful completion of the probationary period, the regular hourly rate will be $27.72. Benefits in accordance with the negotiated agreement between the Berlin Board of Education and the Berlin Board of Education Custodians. •
