Head Custodian - High School

In this vital leadership role, you will oversee all custodial and maintenance operations at the school, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Your expertise in cleaning, management, building operations and customer service will drive the daily success of our school's facilities. We are looking for a highly motivated leader to build on the success of the retiring incumbent while being open to new challenges and ways of doing the work. Responsibilities Lead and supervise custodial staff to maintain high standards of cleanliness, repair and safety throughout the school premises. Develop and implement cleaning schedules, ensuring all areas—including classrooms, hallways, gyms, cafeterias, and administrative offices—are spotless and well-maintained. Manage inventory of cleaning supplies, janitorial equipment, and maintenance tools to support smooth daily operations. Efficiently and effectively utilize allocated budget and resources. Reports any acts of vandalism or breakage to proper authorities; Checks to insure that buildings are heated, cleaned, locked and unlocked and in readiness for all activities; Operates and monitors heating and air conditioning systems for proper usage; Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, Coordinate with Facilities Department to address maintenance requests and facility needs promptly. Foster a positive team environment through effective leadership, training, and supervision of custodial personnel. Requirements Proven supervisory experience in custodial services or janitorial management within educational institutions or high pedestrian traffic commercial settings. Strong background in cleaning techniques including general cleaning, deep cleaning, and specialized sanitation procedures. Demonstrated expertise in daily floor care and annual care such as summer stripping and waxing protocols. Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team of custodians. Knowledge of safety protocols related to chemical handling, equipment use, and building maintenance. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently under pressure. Must be able to respond to after hours emergencies. Able to work overtime as needed. Able to frequently move objects up to 50 pounds. Able to climb ladders, work from heights and lifts, and move freely in awkward or small spaces.

Pay:

$27.61 per hour
