School Custodian

Duties Perform routine cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and trash removal across all school areas. Maintain floors through buffing, stripping, waxing, and carpet cleaning to ensure a polished appearance. Conduct janitorial tasks such as restocking supplies, disinfecting restrooms, and cleaning classrooms and common areas. Assist with facilities maintenance including minor repairs, painting (residential or industrial), and troubleshooting equipment issues. Operate cleaning machinery and tools safely while adhering to safety protocols for commercial cleaning standards. Support overall building upkeep by performing porter duties like moving furniture or equipment as needed. Ensure the school environment remains safe by inspecting for hazards and reporting maintenance needs promptly. Qualifications Proven experience in custodial work or janitorial services within commercial or residential settings.

Physical Ability:

Capacity of stand for long periods, walk, push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Knowledge:

Understanding of cleaning products, safety procedures, and sanitation guidelines.

Attributes:

Trustworthiness (as a keyholder), attention to detail, and ability to work independently. Knowledge of cleaning techniques including floor care such as buffing, stripping, waxing, and carpet extraction. Prior experience with industrial cleaning equipment and facilities maintenance is highly desirable. Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, and operating cleaning machinery safely. Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills to maintain cleanliness standards consistently. Basic understanding of safety procedures related to custodial work and chemical handling. Custodial or janitorial certifications are a plus but not required; on-the-job training will be provided. Certifications Valid driver's license required with no convictions or infractions involving drugs or alcohol and no more than 3 moving violations in the last 3 years. Must have the ability to provide own transportation (with necessary liability insurance) for job-related responsibilities. Must pass a criminal background screening and credit check.
