Environmental Services (EVS) Technician Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
: Responsible for ensuring a sanitary environment and providing nutritional support. This position maintains the cleanliness of the hospice facility and assist with meal preparation and delivery.
REPORTS TO
RN Case Manager
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent Current CPR certification Valid driver's license and reliable transportation, and evidence of insurance coverage as required by company policy. Ability to follow instructions for meal orders, nutritional needs and recipes to ensure residents and patients receive appropriate food. Physical stamina to assist in food service and cleaning duties through a minimum of an 8 hour shift.
JOB CONDITIONS AND WORK DEMANDS
  • Requires minimal lifting of 50 lbs occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Prolonged periods of standing with periodic kneeling, standing, stooping, pushing, pulling and walking, as well as communication by phone and in person.
  • Interacting positively with a wide range of guests, patients, and co-workers.
  • Mostly inside environmental conditions.
  • Work scheduled shifts which may include work weekends and holidays.

RESPONSIBILITIES
: (Included but not limited to):
  • Provide quality care to residents in an environment which promotes their rights, dignity, freedom of choice, and their individuality.
  • Prepare meals, snacks and beverages following specific procedures.
  • Assemble patient food trays according to specific diet cards and at scheduled times, deliver meals directly to rooms, and collect used trays after dining.
  • Serve meals, ensuring food safety and hygiene procedures are followed at all times.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, wash dishes, pots, and pans, and maintain the cleanliness of the cafeteria or dining area following established food safety protocols.
  • Maintain cleanliness standards for all operating equipment, including but not limited to kitchen appliances and cleaning instruments
  • Take inventory of kitchen supplies and food items.
  • Stay current on the individual procedures and protocols for the facilities, including state-specified rules and regulations.
  • Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing (by following the CDC two step cleaning process) of patient rooms and other areas of the hospice facility, including disinfecting high-touch surfaces (bed rails, tables), sweeping and mopping floors, and cleaning and stocking guest bathrooms.
Terminal Cleaning:
Perform deep-cleaning procedures for rooms after a patient is discharged to prepare the space for a new occupant.
  • Empty trash and biohazard waste containers, following strict infection control and disposal protocols.
  • Act as a friendly point of contact for patients and visitors, responding to dietary requests within the dietary orders.
  • Strictly adhere to hospice policies regarding Hand Hygiene and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to prevent the spread of healthcare-associated infections.
  • Provide excellent customer service and communication to all guests and patients visiting the facility.
  • Recognize emergencies and utilize knowledge of emergency procedures.
  • Show respect for the patient, the patient ' s privacy, and the patient ' s property.
  • Maintain and respect the confidentiality of medical records and information concerning patients by following HIPAA guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
