This position is located in the Housekeeping, or Environmental Services (EVS), department of Kaua'i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) of Hawai'i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua'i Region. The HHSC Kaua'i Region encompasses Kaua'i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), both designated as critical access hospitals (CAH), as well as the Kaua'i Region Clinics and its affiliated entities. The Housekeeping department plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This department is responsible for the thorough cleaning and sanitization of patient rooms, operating rooms, restrooms, and common areas, ensuring adherence to stringent infection control standards. Housekeeping staff regularly manage waste disposal, including hazardous materials, in compliance with health regulations. Additionally, they restock supplies, such as linens and toiletries, and respond promptly to urgent cleaning requests to support the overall operations of the hospital. The department collaborates closely with healthcare teams to enhance patient comfort and safety, contributing significantly to the hospital's mission of providing high-quality care. The EVS Worker II performs routine manual tasks to ensure that HHSC Kaua'i Region facilities are maintained in a clean and sanitary condition. This role includes heavy lifting, cleaning areas and equipment that are difficult to access, operating heavy industrial cleaning equipment, and undertaking other related duties as assigned. The position involves rotating shifts and may require scheduling for extended hours, including weekends, holidays, and evenings. The individual in this role may also travel to assist at other facility locations within the region to meet operational needs. The position reports to the Administrative Services Officer I (Regional) (Safety/Environment of Care/EVS), position number 59875, or their designee.THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.EDUCATION
A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is preferred. Relevant substitutions are allowed.EXPERIENCE
None required.KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Practices, tools, and materials used in janitorial work; knowledge of basic practices in methods of infection control, housekeeping protocols and procedures, safety, handling, and disposal of waste is preferred.ABILITY TO
Lift and carry heavy furniture and equipment; understand and follow oral and written instructions; perform minor building repair and maintenance tasks; safely operate heavy industrial-type cleaning equipment; reference Material Safety Data Sheet (SDS) to safely work with departmental chemicals; use small hand tools such as screwdrivers, hammers, and wrenches to perform the daily duties that are assigned; work independently and complete all job assignments daily is preferred.LICENSURE
