PH Key Responsibilities:
Cleaning and Sanitation:
Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing of classrooms, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, gymnasiums, offices, libraries, and other school facilities. Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and disinfect floors, furniture, fixtures, and high-touch surfaces to maintain a clean and healthy learning environment. Clean and sanitize student and staff restrooms, ensuring they remain fully stocked with soap, paper products, and other necessary supplies. Empty trash and recycling receptacles throughout the school and replace liners as needed. Clean interior windows, glass doors, mirrors, drinking fountains, and other common surfaces. Assist with cleaning and disinfecting areas following illness outbreaks or as directed by school administration.
Building Maintenance:
Conduct routine inspections of school facilities to identify maintenance, safety, or cleanliness concerns. Report maintenance issues, equipment malfunctions, and repair needs promptly to the Head Custodian, Facilities Manager, or designated supervisor. Perform minor maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, painting touch-ups, assembling furniture, and other general repairs within assigned responsibilities. Assist with setting up and breaking down classrooms, cafeterias, auditoriums, and gymnasiums for school events, meetings, and extracurricular activities.
Grounds and Exterior Maintenance:
Maintain school entrances, sidewalks, playgrounds, parking lots, and other exterior areas by removing litter and debris. Assist with seasonal duties, including snow and ice removal, applying ice melt, sweeping leaves, and maintaining safe walkways. Monitor exterior areas for safety hazards and report concerns promptly.
Supply and Equipment Management:
Monitor inventory levels of cleaning chemicals, paper products, restroom supplies, and janitorial equipment. Maintain an organized and secure custodial storage area. Notify the appropriate supervisor when supplies need replenishment. Operate, clean, and maintain custodial equipment, including floor scrubbers, buffers, vacuums, and carpet extractors.
Safety and Security:
Follow all school district policies, OSHA regulations, and established safety procedures when handling cleaning chemicals, equipment, and waste. Help maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Report safety hazards, vandalism, suspicious activity, or security concerns immediately to school administration. Participate in emergency response procedures, evacuation drills, and school safety protocols as assigned. Properly secure classrooms and common areas, including locking doors and turning off lights when required.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in janitorial or custodial work preferred. Knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and supplies. Ability to operate cleaning machinery (e.g., vacuum cleaner, floor buffer) safely. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining cleanliness. Physical stamina and the ability to lift to 75 pounds. Basic maintenance and repair skills are a plus. Benefits Offered to
