Custodian/Handyman College Prepatory School of Am Lombard, IL 60148 $24.21 - $29.15 an hour - Full-time $24.21 - $29.15 an hour - Full-time Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Custodian/Handyman to maintain the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of our facilities. This vital role involves performing janitorial duties, light maintenance, and repair tasks to ensure a welcoming and well-maintained environment for staff and visitors alike. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and possess a strong work ethic to keep our premises in top condition. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to the upkeep of a dynamic facility while developing valuable skills in custodial and maintenance work. Responsibilities Perform thorough cleaning of all areas, including offices, restrooms, hallways, and common spaces using appropriate cleaning techniques and equipment. Conduct routine janitorial tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, trash removal, and restocking supplies to maintain cleanliness standards. Carry out general maintenance duties including minor repairs, painting, fixture replacements, and troubleshooting issues around the facility. Operate floor care equipment such as buffers and polishers to ensure floors are clean, shiny, and safe for foot traffic. Assist with industrial cleaning projects when needed, including deep cleaning of high-traffic or specialized areas. Support facilities maintenance by inspecting lighting fixtures, plumbing, HVAC components, and other systems; perform basic repairs or coordinate with specialists as necessary. Maintain safety protocols during all tasks to ensure a hazard-free environment for staff and visitors. Experience Prior janitorial or custodial experience in commercial or residential settings is highly preferred. Hands-on experience with floor care techniques such as buffing, stripping, sealing, and polishing floors. Knowledge of industrial cleaning methods and supplies is advantageous. Experience with basic maintenance tasks like painting or fixture repairs is a plus. Familiarity with facilities maintenance procedures including troubleshooting common issues related to plumbing, electrical systems or HVAC equipment.
