Google Chrome, Safari Description To provide custodial and maintenance support, in a safe, efficient and attractive manner in and around facilities occupied by SIU School of Medicine. •This position is ON SITE only• Examples of Duties 10% Care and upkeep of carpeting: Building Service personnel are responsible for vacuuming and/or shampooing carpets within the building, using all equipment specified for this purpose. 15% Hard surface areas: Building Service personnel will clean and maintain hard surfaces by wiping, dusting, wet/damp mopping, sealing and waxing, as specified. This will include walkways, stairways, lab areas, exam rooms, and other assigned areas. 10% Access areas: Responsible for upkeep clearing and cleaning of walkways, parking lots, stairs, courtyards, and other access areas throughout SIU Medicine. Also, keep these areas clean, dry, and hazard free by removing leaves and assist in the upkeep and maintenance of the campus, by mowing, trimming, watering, and other related duties such as applying chemical agents and sand to melt ice and remove snow as required. 44%
Disposal:
Building Service personnel will dispose of all trash and debris in wastebaskets, restroom receptacles, recycle containers, and various designated trash items. Deliver biohazard containers to the proper area for disposal. 5%
Furniture/fixtures:
Building Service personnel will clean, dust, and polish all horizontal areas and fixtures such as furniture, venetian blinds and rest room fixtures. 5% Wash interior area windows, exterior and entranceway windows on inside, and other glass as directed. 1% Participate in SIU Medicine, State and Federal mandated training and respond/act responsibly in compliance with regulatory training. This includes, but not limited to: a. Required to complete annual training for Bloodborne Pathogens and Hazards Communication, indicating with a test score of 80% or greater. b. Complete required site safety training (i.e., Prevention of Slips, Trips, and Falls and Back Safety etc.) and incorporate learned safety skills into functional daily work activities. c. Report observed leaks," spills or other releases of potentially hazardous materials to Supervisor, Deputy Director of Operations, EHSO, or local emergency responders, depending on extent and nature of release. Assist SIU Medicine oil handling personnel to restrict unauthorized access to the impacted areas and inhibit the spread of the release by applying absorbent materials as appropriate and commensurate with training. d. Demonstrate general knowledge of the SIU Medicine Spill Prevention and Countermeasure Plan and attend yearly training on plan contents. 5%
Miscellaneous:
Assist building maintenance and security personnel in emergencies; i.e., floods, emergency evacuations. 5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties described above. Qualifications Credentials to be Verified by Placement Officer 1. High school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA's) Knowledge of cleaning solutions and custodial methods. Ability to comprehend and follow oral instructions. Ability to read and follow written instructions, directions, labeling and measurements. Ability to exert muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to bend, stretch, twist, reach, and stand for long periods of time. Ability to perform general physical activities that require considerable use of hands, arms, legs, and moving whole body, such as climbing, lifting, walking, stooping, handling, positioning, moving materials, and manipulating items. Ability to tolerate exposure to temperature extremes. Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner. Condition of Employment Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, an out-of-state resident who is hired into this position must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of their start date .
