HOUSING OPERATIONS
(BA-OPER-IUBLA) Department Information Housing Operations supports the on-campus housing and dining for over 12,000 students. We strive to create life-changing experiences by building relationships, developing others, and creating a sense of belonging for our students, their families, and the Indiana University (IU) community. Our Environmental Operations team provides quality service through custodial care in residential buildings on Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) campus. We contribute to the health and morale of students, staff, faculty, and visitors by maintaining building environments that are clean and in good repair. Job Summary Department-Specific Responsibilities Keeps buildings and facilities in clean and orderly condition. Performs daily cleaning of restrooms and showers in the student living spaces. Vacuums hallways in student living spaces. Maintains daily the public spaces of our residential areas. General Responsibilities Cleans floors, ramps, and stairs by sweeping, wet mopping/dust mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them. Services, cleans, and supplies restrooms. Gathers and empties recycling and trash. Cleans and polishes fixtures. Replaces light bulbs. Cleans windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees. Mixes water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications. Dusts furniture, walls, machines, and equipment. Steam cleans or shampoos carpets. Strips, seals, finishes, and polishes floors. Cleans, replaces, and hangs blinds, drapes, and entrance mats. Collects and delivers soiled items. Clears sidewalks, drives, and adjacent areas. Shovels snow. Locks, unlocks, and secures buildings. Maintains awareness of building sand facilities, reports abnormalities or security concerns. Identifies and reports needed building repairs. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Assists with snow removal activities as necessary. Qualifications

It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position oneself in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The person in this role must be able to move items weighing up to 50 pounds multiple times per shift. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation. Works during inclement weather (i.e., snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate that the department is needed to take care of the campus. Additional Information Salary plan and grade: SM1CC This is an AFSCME union covered position. Work Location Bloomington, Indiana Advertised Salary $16.23 per hour. Indiana University is currently paying a shift premium of $0.50 per hour on top of the regular hourly rate to Custodian - Foundational for hours worked between 3:00 pm and 8:00 am, provided at least 6 hours are worked between those times. Work Hours 40 hours per week, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM.
