Job Description

Building Services - Custodian Franklin College is seeking to fill a full time, 12-month hourly Building Services - Custodian to work 2nd shift, in the Physical Facilities Department. Building Services personnel are responsible for providing custodial and minor maintenance for Franklin College facilities. This is an hourly position reporting to the Building Services Manager. Founded in 1834, Franklin College is a residential four-year undergraduate liberal arts institution with a scenic, wooded campus located 20 minutes south of downtown Indianapolis. The college prepares men and women for challenging careers and fulfilling lives through the liberal arts, offering its approximately 1,000 students 28 majors, 36 minors and eight pre- professional programs. In 1842, the college began admitting women, becoming the first coeducational institution in Indiana and the seventh in the nation. Franklin College maintains a voluntary association with the American Baptist Churches
USA. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Floor care - includes vacuuming, sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, buffing, dusting, carpet cleaning and stripping;
  • Apply wax and sealers to floors as assigned/directed;
  • Trash collection in various locations and dispose in dumpster;
  • Dust all surfaces;
  • Wash windows, walls, and baseboards;
  • Clean bathrooms, showers, mirrors, showcases, water fountains, etc.;
  • Move furniture and other items;
  • Set ups for meetings and other functions may be an occasional task;
  • Understand and follow safety rules and instructions on labels on all materials.
OTHER DUTIES
  • Maintain equipment, notifying management when repairs are necessary;
  • Change light bulbs;
  • Report emergency repairs as required;
  • Open and close windows, lock and unlock doors to ensure consistent functionality;
  • Keep work area clean, neat and orderly;
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements include HS diploma or equivalent; 1-2 years' custodial experience desired. Successful candidate must be able to lift 10-25 lbs. frequently and 50-75 lbs occasionally with or without reasonable accommodations. Post offer functional testing required.
