Job Description

John Will Anderson Gary Club 2700 W. 19th Ave., Gary, IN 46404
Typical Hours:
Part-time up to 29 hours a week 7am to Noon, Monday through Friday, with additional hours Friday evening or Saturday morning as needed for rentals
Hourly Rate:
$13 to $15 The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working environment for all staff, members, visitors and vendors.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform regular preventive maintenance on all equipment necessary. Clean and sanitize bathrooms. Clean, mop, wash, scrub, wax, polish, buff, and vacuum floor using industrial vacuum cleaners and scrubbing and buffing machines. Empty trash receptacles. Clean and polish fixtures. Removes recycling materials. Manage inventory of supplies necessary to perform job. Sometimes using ladders, dust and wash walls, clean ceilings and window, and dust and polish light fixtures. Clean windows. Dust furniture. Move cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates and equipment to clean areas as well as during office moves and events. Remove stains from such surfaces as rugs, drapes, walls, and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions. Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas. Operate motorized cleaning equipment. Detect faulty operations, defective material, hazards or unsafe conditions and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision. Attendance of all staff/agency meetings, as required. Perform other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
Knowledge/Skills Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Must be at least 18 years of age. Ability to read and comprehend safety rules, procedure manuals, operating and maintenance instructions. Able to comprehend, retain and follow oral and written instructions, exercise good judgment, set priorities, listen, problem solve and make decisions. Ability to operate and maintain specialty cleaning equipment. Demonstrated ability to positively interact with staff, members, parents, visitors, vendors, etc. Must be able to work with limited to no supervision. Work Environment:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, and moving machinery and hazardous chemicals. The noise level is moderate to high. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to lift/push up to 50 pounds.
