FACILITY OPERATIONS
(SE-PHYP-IUSEA) Department Information The Office of Residence Life and Housing creates living-learning environments committed to holistic student development, academic success, and civic engagement. The department strives to provide safe, well-maintained housing facilities that engage students in meaningful discourse and interaction while providing opportunities for personal growth and service to the community. The Facility Operations department exists to serve students, faculty and staff by maintaining an environment conducive to learning and efficient operations. Our department offers building custodial services, building maintenance services, construction projects, grounds and landscape maintenance, and mail services. Facility Operations is dedicated to keeping the physical structures and grounds of the University well maintained and attractive, with its goal to provide each student, faculty and staff member a safe, pleasant, and functional environment. Job Summary This position enhances the appearance of and prepares the IU Southeast lodges for the 2026-2027 academic year. Department-Specific Responsibilities Performs detailed cleaning of bedrooms, furniture, carpet, kitchen, and bathroom. Dusts, mops, strips, waxes, and buffs floors. Sweeps outside entrances. Vacuum carpets at entrances and in hallways. Dust mops, wet mops hallways and baseboards, strips, waxes and buffs floors. Performs high and low dusting, washes windows and cleans drinking fountains. Removes trash and cleans trash cans. Removes trash from public restrooms, and replenishes supplies. Sweeps and mop floors with disinfectant. Cleans and disinfects commodes, toilet paper holders, sinks, pipes and walls around those areas. Cleans mirrors and dispensers. Spot cleans walls and baseboards. Cleans sanitary cans. Disinfects door handles. Empties and cleans wastebaskets/trash cans in the Great room. Cleans, dusts, and straightens furniture. Vacuums and extracts carpet. Spot cleans walls. Cleans glass, microwaves, and windows. Empties waste baskets/trash cans and pencil sharpeners in the computer lab and study rooms. Dusts and sanitizes furniture, computer screens, and keyboards. Vacuums and extracts carpet. Changes light bulbs. Cleans desktops. Sweeps, wet mops or dust mops stairs and floor. Checks corners for spider webs. Cleans ledge above entrances (ladder needed). Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes, and buff floors in the laundry room. Clean washers and dryers. Empties trash and cleans trash cans. Performs tasks including, but not limited to cleaning apartments; sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing floors; dusting, polishing, and moving furniture; operating vacuum cleaner, shampooer, and buffer; washing walls and windows. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED) SKILLS Required Ability to read, understand and follow written and oral instruction Ability to work a flexible schedule Communication skills Proven orientation toward quality service Ability to use or operate equipment Working Conditions / Demands This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for long durations. It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position oneself in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation. Unpleasant working conditions are contact with hazardous materials, unpleasant odors, loud noise, vibrations, hot and cold temperatures. Work Location IU Southeast Campus New Albany, Indiana Advertised Salary $15.00 per hour Work Hours 28 hours per week maximum Shifts scheduled Monday-Friday April 20 (or anytime mid-April) - July 30, 2026
