RISING SUN-OHIO COUNTY COMMUNITY SCHOOL CORPORATION JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE

POSITION PURPOSE
To provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, work, play and develop.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. 1. Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times. 2. Performs painting duties as required. 3. Shovels, plows, and salts walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate. 4. Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy. 5. Raises the United States flag at or before 8:00 A.M. each school day, and lower it at or after 3:30 P.M. (This is determined by the Principal) 6. Sweeps, dusts, and empties trash in the classrooms daily. Dusts furniture as needed. 7. Cleans corridors each day, and during the day when conditions require it. 8. Scrubs, wet mops and disinfect restroom floors daily, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily. 9. Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year, and more frequently if necessary. 10. Keeps the grounds free from rubbish. 11. Performs such yard keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, and the like, as necessary to maintain the school rounds in a safe and attractive manner. 12. Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation. 13. Cleans all chalkboards at least once a week. 14. Makes such minor building repairs as he/she is capable of. 15. Reports major repairs needed promptly to the Director of Maintenance. 16. Maintains on a regular schedule all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing. 17. Reports immediately to the Principal any damage to school property. 18. Remains on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance required by the principal (except during thirty (30) minute dinner break). 19. Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining before leaving that all door and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off. 20. Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment and fuel on hand, and requisitions such needed replacements from the Business Manager far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodian in his duties. 21. Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair. 22. Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal. 23. Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, waste, paints and fuels. 24. Assumes responsibility for the safe condition of the swimming pool, making all the necessary water tests, back-washing the filters, and refilling the pool as necessary. 25. Conducts periodic inspections and test of all electrical installations in the school to ensure their safe condition. 26. Performs any necessary clean-ups as emergency may dictate. 27. Sweeps, mops, wet washes, and vacuums floors in assigned areas. 28. Inspects boilers, chillers, hot water heaters daily for proper operation. 29. Assists in monitoring student discipline as appropriate. 30. Other duties assigned by principal or the Director of Maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. High School Diploma or Equivalent. 2. Ability to plan and organize 3. Skills in human relations 4. Demonstrates aptitude for cleaning, minor mechanical repair and good work habits. 5. Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board.

The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
