Job Description
Position Summary Westover Job Corps Center is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Custodian to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. The Custodian is responsible for performing a variety of janitorial, grounds keeping, and general maintenance duties to ensure all facilities and outdoor areas meet established health, safety, and cleanliness standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of classrooms, offices, dormitories, restrooms, common areas, and other campus facilities. Complete interior and exterior custodial, building maintenance, and grounds keeping assignments. Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of campus grounds by collecting and disposing of litter, debris, and waste. Assist with landscaping activities, including mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, and general grounds maintenance. Ensure buildings, equipment, and facilities are cleaned and maintained in compliance with Center policies and applicable OSHA and Department of Labor (DOL) standards. Stock and organize custodial supply rooms and maintain adequate inventory of cleaning materials and supplies. Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, entryways, walkways, and other designated areas; apply salt and de-icing materials as needed. Move furniture, equipment, and fixtures to support campus operations and special projects. Set up and break down rooms for meetings, training sessions, classes, and special events. Support the Center's mission and objectives by contributing to Operational Management System (OMS) goals. Promote a positive, respectful, and professional work environment that reflects Job Corps Career Success Standards and organizational core values. Adhere to the Center's Zero Tolerance Policy and all safety and security procedures. Perform other duties as assigned to support the needs of the Center. Qualifications Education High School Diploma or equivalent required. Experience Minimum of one (1) year of custodial, janitorial, facilities maintenance, or related experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of custodial methods, materials, equipment, and cleaning procedures. Understanding of grounds maintenance practices, including mowing, edging, trimming, and landscaping techniques. Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and use cleaning products according to manufacturer guidelines. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately. Ability to read and understand labels, safety data sheets, and operating instructions. Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and related software applications. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a safe and clean environment. Additional Requirements Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Commitment to supporting a diverse student population and maintaining a professional campus environment. Physical Requirements Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Ability to hear and speak clearly in person and by telephone. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, stoop, reach, and move throughout the campus for extended periods. Ability to operate cleaning equipment, tools, and computer systems. Ability to lift, carry, push, and move supplies, equipment, and other materials as required. Working Conditions Indoor and outdoor campus environment. Exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, cleaning chemicals, and equipment with moving parts. Frequent walking and physical activity throughout the workday.
