Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Facilities and Engineering, the Supervisor of Custodial Services is responsible for the overall operation of building services, grounds, and supervising the activities of staff including training and evaluations. Plans and oversees the moving of furniture and equipment. Schedules and ensures completion of event setups and cleanups. Works with external contractors and staff for snow removal and provides supervision. Maintains cleaning equipment. Oversees the disposal of trash and the recycling of waste. Prepares work orders. Assigns work using existing work order management systems and orders supplies and replacement of equipment as necessary. Supervises and coordinates custodial services for campus buildings to ensure clean, sanitary, and safe facilities. Oversees campus grounds maintenance, waste management, recycling, snow and ice removal, and related sustainability and weather-response operations. Plans and coordinates furniture and equipment moves and supports campus event setups and breakdowns. Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates staff in accordance with College policies and applicable collective bargaining agreements, while providing ongoing coaching and professional development. Utilizes computerized facilities management systems and work order platforms to assign tasks, monitor work progress, and document completed work. Reviews, prioritizes, and coordinates maintenance requests and service calls. Maintains records related to work assignments, equipment usage, supplies, inventory, employee attendance, and operational activities. Promotes and enforces safe work practices consistent with institutional policies, applicable federal and state regulations, and union contract provisions. Ensures proper use, storage, and handling of custodial chemicals, equipment, and materials. Supports campus emergency preparedness and response efforts related to facilities operations. Conducts regular inspections of campus facilities and grounds to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and opportunities for operational improvement. Recommends and assists in the development and improvement of custodial and grounds policies, procedures, and operational practices. Assists with budget planning, equipment purchases, inventory control, and supply management related to custodial and grounds operations. Supervises employees represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) bargaining unit and administers day-to-day supervision consistent with applicable collective bargaining agreements, including work assignments, attendance monitoring, overtime oversight, disciplinary and grievance processes, and equitable enforcement of work rules and safety procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's degree in facilities management, building operations, environmental services, business administration, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Demonstrated experience in custodial services, facilities operations, or grounds maintenance in an institutional, commercial, or industrial setting. Supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership in a facilities or operations environment. Experience working with computerized work order or facilities management systems. Basic computer proficiency including email, scheduling systems, and operational reporting tools.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in facilities management, plant engineering, building operations, business administration, or related field. Five (5) years of experience in higher education, municipal, or large institutional facilities operations. Professional training or affiliation in facilities management or physical plant administration.
Full-time, Non-Unit Professional Position:
Salary Range:
$76,687.37 - $84,668.75/yr (Grade 6), plus a comprehensive State benefits package.
Hours:
37.5 hrs./week.
