This position requires hands-on participation in custodial duties, including cleaning, floor maintenance, and facility upkeep. The supervisor provides leadership, training, scheduling, and quality control while maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout school buildings and grounds. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supervisory Responsibilities Supervise, assign, and evaluate the work of custodial staff. Develop daily, weekly, and seasonal cleaning schedules. Train custodians on proper cleaning procedures, equipment operation, and safety practices. Monitor employee performance and ensure work is completed according to district standards. Conduct inspections of classrooms, offices, restrooms, cafeterias, gyms, and common areas. Assist with staff scheduling, attendance monitoring, and coverage for absences. Communicate effectively with school administrators, maintenance personnel, and custodial staff. Ensure compliance with school district policies, safety regulations, and OSHA standards. Maintain up-to-date inventory of all custodial equipment and supplies. Order custodial supplies. May require evening, weekend, or emergency response work as needed. Custodial and Cleaning Duties Perform routine and deep-cleaning tasks as needed. Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, hallways, cafeterias, locker rooms, and administrative offices. Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and disinfect surfaces. Remove trash and recycling materials from designated areas. Set up and take down furniture and equipment for school events, meetings, and activities. Respond to emergency cleaning situations such as spills, weather-related issues, or accidents. Floor Care and Maintenance Operate floor care equipment, including buffers, burnishers, scrubbers, and extractors. Strip, wax, seal, and refinish various types of flooring. Maintain gym floors and other specialty flooring according to district standards. Perform carpet cleaning and extraction. Monitor floor conditions and recommend maintenance schedules to preserve flooring investments. Facility and Safety Responsibilities Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance and safety concerns. Report repair needs and work closely with maintenance personnel. Ensure cleaning supplies and equipment are properly maintained and inventoried. Maintain compliance with safety procedures for handling chemicals and cleaning products. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of 3-5 years of custodial experience, preferably in a school or educational setting. Previous supervisory or lead custodial experience preferred. Extensive experience with floor care, including stripping, waxing, buffing, and refinishing floors. Knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and custodial chemicals. Ability to train, motivate, and supervise staff. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical custodial duties. Valid driver's license is preferred. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. Ability to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking staff, students, parents, and community members. Experience providing training, instructions, and supervision in both English and Spanish is highly desirable.
