Job Summary The Custodian / Maintenance Assistant is responsible for the custodial care, cleanliness, and general upkeep of parish buildings and grounds. This position helps ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for parishioners, staff, visitors, and community members through routine cleaning, maintenance, and groundskeeping activities.
Job Responsibilities Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of parish facilities, including offices, meeting spaces, classrooms, and common areas.
Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
Perform routine custodial tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, trash removal, and wall and window cleaning.
Wax and maintain floors as needed to preserve facility appearance and safety.
Conduct basic building maintenance, including replacing light bulbs, air filters, and other minor repairs within the scope of the position.
Assist with grounds maintenance by raking leaves, removing debris, and maintaining outdoor areas.
Monitor facilities and grounds for maintenance needs, safety concerns, and cleanliness issues, reporting items requiring repair or attention.
Support parish events and activities by assisting with facility setup, cleanup, and general preparation as needed.
Follow established safety procedures and maintain proper use of cleaning equipment and supplies.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements Previous custodial, maintenance, or facilities experience preferred.
Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, standing, walking, and working indoors and outdoors.
Knowledge of basic cleaning methods, equipment, and safety practices.
Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and maintain a high standard of cleanliness.
Dependable, organized, and committed to providing excellent service in support of the parish mission.
