Help for Partial Job Description. Opens a new window. The West Platte School District is now accepting applications for a full-time custodian position•evening shift. This position will be a 12-month evening position, and eligible for full benefits. Inquiries can be directed to Matt Stephens, stephensm@wpsd.net QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to the completion of a high school diploma. Prior experience operating and maintaining diesel, gasoline and electrically powered motors and machinery and their attachments. Ability to read sufficiently well to understand labels, instructions and directions as they pertain to work performance, safety and record-keeping aspects of the job. Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable. REPORTS TO
Maintenance Director TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Twelve-month position, 8 hours per day. Salary and benefits as determined by Board policies, using the Support Staff schedule. JOB GOAL
To maintain a clean, sanitized, and attractive learning environment that is in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of them may be made at all times. To make the facility safe and secure for all who enter. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Interpret instructions in written documentation or given orally such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals in English.
2. Perform major cleaning tasks such as, but not limited, to vacuuming, wet-mopping, sweeping, dusting, emptying trash, recycle material, and pencil sharpeners, cleaning chalkboards or white boards, and disinfecting drinking fountains and surfaces.
3. Clean all indoor facilities including floors, walls, windows and surfaces in all rooms and hallways.
4. Clean restrooms, including floors and all fixtures (i.e. urinals, toilets, sinks, mirrors, partitions, and counters) ensure restrooms are hygienic.
5. Restock disposable items such as soap, paper towels, etc.
6. Use cleaning materials and techniques as directed.
7. Perform ongoing tasks such as replacing light bulbs, filling dispensers, and setting up facilities for student and adult use.
8. Make minor building repairs and promptly report major repairs needed to the building administrator.
9. Ensure that all doors and windows are appropriately locked.
10. Assist in major clean-up in summer, such as washing desks and chairs, washing down walls, stripping and waxing floors, and shampooing carpets.
11. Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Keep grounds free of rubbish and in winter shovel snow from steps and sidewalks and apply ice melt when appropriate.
2. Prepare requests for custodial supplies and equipment for building operations.
3. Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
4. Must have the ability to write legibly and complete requested paperwork or reports on time.
5. Assist in preparation of work order request for building repairs and maintenance.
6. Respond to requests from staff members.
7. Must maintain a positive demeanor, and use appropriate language while maintaining a professional relationship with students, faculty, administration, parents, and patrons.
8. Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in the work setting.
9. Attend meetings as scheduled by supervisors and administrators.
10. Adheres to good safety practices.
11. Adheres to all district rules, regulations, and policies.
12. All other duties as required or assigned. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing job functions employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach, climb, bend, squat, stoop and kneel. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp and use tools and climb ladders. The employee will use a twenty pound vacuum daily for three to four hours, push or pull items such as desks, tables, bleachers and scrubbing machines. The employee must frequently lift or move up to fifty pounds. Occasionally the employee will lift or move up to ninety pounds. Specific vision requirements include close and peripheral vision and depth perception. CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly works indoors and occasionally works outdoors in extreme temperatures of below freezing and above 100 degrees. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level is usually moderate but can occasionally be loud.
