Environmental Services Worker Watauga Medical Center • Environmental Services Boone, NC Non-Clinical Service Full-time, Evenings & Weekends, 3:00PM-11:30PM Req # 12939 Environmental Service Worker
Location:
Boone, North Carolina | Full-Time | Shifts Vary Why You'll Love Working Here As an Environmental Service Worker at UNC Health Appalachian, you'll help maintain a clean, safe, and healing environment for our patients, visitors, and staff. Your work ensures the highest standards of infection control and safety while supporting the overall patient experience. Compensation:
Starting pay begins at $15.00 per hour, with competitive rates based on experience and education.
Schedule:
Variable shifts, including weekends and holidays.

What You'll Do as an Environmental Service Worker Perform general cleaning assignments including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing. Strip and refinish floors, perform carpet cleaning and extraction, and safely handle waste removal. Maintain compliance with infection control and hospital sanitation procedures. Securely dispose of confidential documents in accordance with facility policies. Restock cleaning supplies and promptly report any maintenance or safety concerns. Follow all safety protocols and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE). Collaborate with hospital staff to ensure a clean and welcoming environment for all. Assist with emergency cleaning or special projects as needed. Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
Experience:
Prior experience in environmental services or healthcare preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
None required.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong attention to detail and adherence to established cleaning protocols. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients, and visitors. Knowledge of infection control and sanitation standards. Dependable, organized, and able to work independently or as part of a team. Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions. Physical & Work Environment Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting throughout the shift. Lift, push, pull, or carry up to and over 50 lbs. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, mechanical equipment, and hospital environment risks. Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious materials. May work irregular hours including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. What Sets Us Apart
