Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dependable, motivated, and detail-oriented Custodian to join our school team. In this role, you will help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment that supports the educational and spiritual mission of the school. The Custodian plays an important part in creating an atmosphere where students, staff, parents, and visitors can learn, work, and grow in a well-maintained Christian environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, a servant's heart, attention to detail, and a commitment to upholding the Christian values and standards of the school. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact through facilities care and maintenance while serving in a Christ-centered ministry. Spiritual Qualifications and Standards The Custodian shall: Possess a personal knowledge of Jesus Christ as Savior. Support the Christian philosophy, mission, and standards as stated in the JCA Handbook. Accept the Bible as the infallible rule of faith and practice. Faithfully attend and participate in the services of a local Bible-believing church. Demonstrate Christian character and professional conduct in all interactions with students, parents, staff, and visitors. Be willing to cooperate with administration and fellow staff members in a spirit of unity and service. Abstain from the use of illegal drugs, tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, immoral conduct, and other activities that are in direct contradiction to biblical principles. Avoid social media involvement or public behavior that could negatively affect the testimony or reputation of the church or school ministry. Maintain modest and appropriate dress in public and adhere to school dress code policies while on duty. Be in satisfactory physical and mental health to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Responsibilities Perform thorough cleaning of offices, hallways, restrooms, gymnasiums, cafeterias, and common areas using appropriate cleaning tools and supplies. Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and sanitize surfaces to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene. Conduct floor care activities such as mopping and waxing to maintain the appearance and longevity of flooring surfaces. Empty trash receptacles and dispose of waste properly throughout the campus. Clean windows, doors, walls, furniture, and fixtures as needed. Replenish restroom and custodial supplies and maintain organized storage areas. Occasionally assist with setup and teardown for school events, programs, meetings, and special activities. Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, and repair needs promptly to administration. Follow all safety procedures when handling cleaning chemicals, equipment, and custodial tasks. Help ensure a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, reporting shortages or replacement needs as necessary. Be prepared each day to complete assigned cleaning responsibilities efficiently and thoroughly. Skills and Qualifications Previous experience in custodial, janitorial, cleaning, or facilities maintenance work preferred but not require. Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums and other custodial machinery. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly environment. Ability to work independently and manage assigned responsibilities effectively. Positive attitude with a willingness to serve and support the needs of the school. Good communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with administration and fellow staff members. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, lift, push, and carry equipment and supplies throughout the workday. Ability to perform repetitive cleaning tasks and work in various indoor and outdoor environments. Sufficient physical stamina to perform custodial duties safely and effectively.
