Full Job Description General Summary:
The Environmental Services (EVS) Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for patients, families, and staff within Heather's House inpatient unit. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, infection prevention practices, and sensitivity to the unique emotional needs of individuals receiving end-of-life care. The EVS Technician plays a critical role in supporting dignity, comfort, and quality of life.
Essential Functions:
Perform routine and detailed cleaning of patient rooms, bathrooms, corridors, and common areas in accordance with infection control standards Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces following established protocols Ensure proper handling and disposal of regulated medical and general waste Maintain cleanliness of isolation rooms using appropriate precautions Clean patient rooms in a respectful, quiet, and compassionate manner Be mindful of patient dignity, privacy, and family presence during services Respond promptly to room turnover needs with sensitivity and efficiency Follow all infection control guidelines, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE) Adhere to OSHA, CDC, and organizational sanitation standards Identify and report safety hazards, spills, or maintenance concerns Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies in good working condition Monitor stock levels and replenish supplies as needed Safely handle and store chemicals in accordance with safety standards Collect, transport, and manage soiled linens according to protocol Support on-site laundry processes if applicable Remove trash and biohazard waste in compliance with regulations Work collaboratively with nursing, clinical staff, and other departments Communicate room readiness and urgent cleaning needs Provide courteous interactions with patients, families, and staff Follows HIA Health Policies and Procedures Other duties as assigned
Education, Certificates and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred Previous housekeeping or environmental services experience in healthcare or hospitality preferred Knowledge of cleaning procedures, infection prevention, and safety practices Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
