Full Job Description Summary/Objective:

Under the direction of the Maintenance Director, the Custodian will contribute to the mission, vision, and values of the Jewish Community Center by providing quality custodial services with standards of excellence, ensuring that buildings and grounds are clean and aesthetically pleasing.

Essential Functions:

Provide appropriate and timely assistance with cleaning of all buildings, room set-ups and breakdowns, grounds maintenance and upkeep as directed, maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene and appearance throughout the entire facility and grounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Clean all buildings by sweeping, dusting, mopping, scrubbing, sealing, buffing, vacuuming, washing surfaces, etc. Check and replenish all supplies as needed in all assigned rooms including offices, gym, fitness floor, pre-school, restrooms and locker rooms. Clean and maintain all restrooms and locker rooms as assigned. Sweep, mop, scrub, strip, wax, polish floors, stairs and other surfaces inside and outside of the building using provided cleaning equipment as assigned. Clean and dust furniture, exhibit cases, picture and door trim as assigned. Clean and wash all windows and glass doors as assigned. Collect all trash bags, trash, recycles and debris and dispose of in the dumpster. Prepare room setups and breakdowns for events and meetings as directed. Report all maintenance repairs immediately to Maintenance Director or Supervisor. Conduct minor repairs as directed and within the abilities and scope of the position. Other routine maintenance, grounds and custodial duties as assigned by the Maintenance Director or Supervisors.

Working Environment:

This position primarily works indoors but does have responsibilities outside where the employee is exposed to natural weather conditions. Employee is exposed to intermittent noise, vibration, chemicals, fumes, industrial cleaning agents, power cleaning equipment operated on wet or slick surfaces. Employee is required to use stepladder; climb and descend stairs and work on stairways. Employee works primarily alone and sometimes without close supervision by following written instructions but will the assist their team as needed.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position is very active and requires standing most of the shift, walking, bending, kneeling, reach, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing a 10' ladder all day. The employee must frequently lift or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to carry and operate both a portable backpack and floor vacuum that might weigh 20-25 lbs. Must be able to communicate with supervisors. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Nights and hours of work are. Occasional other hours may be required as job duties demand including mandatory overtime as needed. Vacation approval may be limited during peak activity periods. Position is required to work all holidays as assigned. Required Education and Experience High school diploma or GED. Must have rudimentary ability to speak, read and understand English. Must be able to work with the tools under the conditions described. Preferred Experience • Work experience is preferred.
