Job Summary:
The Sanitation Associate is responsible for ensuring that all bakery equipment, production areas, and facilities are maintained in a clean, sanitary, and safe condition in compliance with food safety regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and company policies. This role plays a critical part in supporting product quality, employee safety, and regulatory compliance within the bread bakery.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform daily cleaning and sanitation of production equipment, floors, walls, and work surfaces in the bakery. Disassemble, clean, and reassemble bakery machinery and tools following established procedures. Use approved cleaning agents, chemicals, and sanitation equipment safely and effectively. Follow sanitation schedules to ensure production areas are cleaned according to established timelines. Maintain accurate cleaning logs, records, and checklists as required by company policy and regulatory standards. Comply with GMPs, HACCP, and all food safety and quality requirements. Immediately report any safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, or sanitation concerns to management. Assist with pest control prevention measures and inspections. Support production teams in ensuring all work areas are safe, organized, and free from contamination. Properly handle and store cleaning chemicals and supplies. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent Previous experience in a bakery or food production environment is a plus. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Basic math skills for inventory and order management. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations. Education and/or Experience High School diploma or GED, preferred but not required. 1-2 years of experience working in a food manufacturing, or food production setting. Basic math skills, and ability to read basic English. Previous Food Handling experience required. Certifications and Special Requirements Food safety Food handling certification is preferred but not required. Physical Demands and Work Environment Works in a wholesale production bakery. Required to stand for long periods and walk, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch and twist or reach. Push, pull or lift up to 50 pounds. Continuous repetitive motions. Work in hot, humid and noisy environment. Exposure to hot ovens, boiling water, and heated surfaces (burn risk). Use of cleaning and sanitation chemicals that may cause skin irritation or burns. Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
