Job Opening Information Custodian Job Number Cust26 Position Title Custodian Required Application Type School Related Personnel Salary/Pay Scale $18.93/hr Job Description The East Rochester School District is recruiting a Day Shift Custodian. This position is responsible for the cleanliness of our school building, supervising cleaning staff, and performing routine and semi-skilled repair and maintenance tasks. Does related work as required, including but not limited to: Supervision of cleaners, including routine workload management, general and specific cleaning duties; Sweeps, mops, washes, dusts, and performs other cleaning duties; Vacuums and shampoos, carpets and stuffed furniture; Empties waste containers and disposes of rubbish; Replaces light bulbs, towels, soap, and other supplies; Operates floor and carpet cleaning/scrubbing equipment; Repairs furniture; Performs minor carpentry, mechanical, and related tasks; makes minor repairs to plumbing and electrical fixtures and related equipment; Checks to ensure that buildings are heated, cleaned, locked, and unlocked in readiness for all activities; Checks operation of heating systems; Support grounds operations as needed; Ensures buildings are secure and utilize electronic security systems; Assists in unloading, moving, handling, and delivery of equipment, furniture, and supplies; Maintains building recycling program; Paint rooms and equipment; Maintains swimming pools; Assists with setting up and tearing down athletic contests and special events, as well as general policing of facilities during such events; Inspects and monitors facility cleanliness and level of presentation; Exercises sound judgment in taking corrective action as necessary; Reports facility repair and emergency issues to supervisor; Effectively utilizes communication tools, including but not limited to email and computerized maintenance management software. This position includes a complete medical and dental package, paid leave time, and membership in the NYS retirement system. The employee reports directly to the Director of Facilities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of eighth grade plus one (1) year of paid full-time or part-time equivalent experience in building cleaning work. Good knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment; good knowledge of building surfaces and their proper care; working knowledge of the tools, terminology, and practices involved in building maintenance; ability to operate floor cleaning and lawn mowing equipment; ability to make minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical repairs and perform a variety of routine maintenance tasks; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to comprehend appropriate bathroom sanitation processes; ability to read and comprehend Material Safety Data Sheets, Product Safety Data Sheets, and Safety Data Sheets; ability to perform at a steady pace; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
