MAPLE HEIGHTS BOARD OF EDUCATION JOB DESCRIPTION
Custodian-2nd Shift 2PM - 10PM based on student school calendar/teachers calendar (includes 20 Minute Paid Meal Period) 730AM-4PM based on non student report calendar (includes 30 Minute Unpaid Lunch Break) Buildings & Grounds As assigned Principal, Day Engineer, Director of Buildings & Grounds Maintain a clean and healthy school environment; responsible for the proper care, security and general maintenance of building and its contents. : The below lists are not ranked in order of importance. Attend meetings and in-services as required Promote positive public relations by interacting tactfully and diplomatically with staff, students, parents, and public Project a positive image through professional appearance, attitude, and conversation Serve as a role model for students by acting as a responsible, intelligent citizen Ensure safety of students Maintain respect at all times for confidential information Enforce and comply with all Maple Heights Board of Education policies and procedures Performs all assigned duties in a complete, accurate, and timely manner Check boiler room, and maintain as a safe clean, safe, and neat area, as required Clean and maintain custodial equipment and materials Empty and clean waste receptacles, trash pails, and pencil sharpeners, as required Maintain an accurate inventory of all custodial equipment, materials, and supplies Operate and perform routine maintenance on the heating system, record, and report activities Perform minor repairs, including but not limited to glass replacement, electrical repairs, wood repairs, painting and metal repairs. Remove snow from school grounds, apply ice melting compounds Request needed equipment, materials, and supplies Responsible for cleaning all water coolers and drinking fountains, as required Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, as required Responsible for cleaning school lounges, as required Secure building each night Refill towel and soap dispensers and toilet tissue Remove cobwebs, clean windows, including frames, glass display cases, stairways, stair rails, corners, and landings, as required Mow lawns, trim bushes, and trees as directed Polish furniture and woodwork as directed Assist warehouse tradesmen with major repairs as directed Perform yearly inventory of work area, supplies, and equipment Complete paperwork as directed by supervisor Maintain safe entries, hallways, steps, restrooms, offices, classrooms, etc. Report problems with facilities and/or equipment to your immediate supervisor or Day Engineer as applicable Page 1 of 3 Perform other duties as assigned Athletic Complex Daily inspection of running track, pool area, main gym, locker rooms, and other associated areas and report condition to the Athletic Director and or Day Engineer Prepare athletic fields as directed Clean area around the outside of the building on a daily basis Assist High School custodian as directed Elementary Schools Perform periodic inspection of playground equipment Maintain Multi-Purpose room in a clean fashion at all times Clean area around the outside of the building on a daily basis Pick up and dispose of trash collected by cleaning personnel Maintain cafeteria in a clean fashion at all times Assist Day Engineer as directed Wet mop cafeteria floor as needed to prevent any slip/fall hazards Clean cafeteria tables between lunch periods Clean area around the outside of the building on a daily basis Assist Night Engineer as directed Pick up and dispose of trash collected by cleaning personnel Clean area around the outside of the building on a daily basis Dust mop gym floor after evening use Administration Building Open building and disarm access control system for rear door Perform special deliveries as directed Fill in at warehouse as directed by supervisor Set up for Board Meetings Work nights of Board Meetings Change information sign as directed by supervisor High school diploma or equivalent Such alternatives to the above as Superintendent and or Board of Education may find appropriate Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing Ability to operate machinery Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions, warnings, and labels Ability to see color for electrical wiring purposes Ability to work effectively with others Basic understanding of electricity, plumbing, welding, carpentry, roofing and glazing Effective, active listening skills Knowledge of steam and water heating systems Organizational and problem solving skills Training in the proper care and storage of chemicals, e.g.
