Cleaner - Service

The Bus Cleaner performs routine checks of bus condition and ensures that the buses are prepared for service. TARTA has recently embarked on a transformational journey with the passage of Issue 12 in 2021. This local sales tax levy has significantly increased the local investment into the transit authority and has also expanded its service area to all of Lucas County and the City of Rossford in Wood County. In response to the local community s renewed focus and support of TARTA, the Board adopted TARTA Next, a ten-year plan to increase services, invest in capital assets such as new mobility hubs and a zero-emissions bus fleet, and to improve customer experience through investments in technology, bus shelters and signage, and customer outreach. This transformation is well underway and powered by a dedicated team of professionals in each department from the leadership team to every front-line team member.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Routine Maintenance Deep cleaning of the bus. Cleaning the interior of bus in preparation for daily operation Alerting supervisor to more complex mechanical problems Miscellaneous Duties Remove trash and debris. Clean work area and equipment Perform other duties as assigned. Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Understanding of basic operation requirements of bus. Knowledge of safety procedures. Proficiently use appropriate tools and equipment. Communicate effectively with co-workers and management. Read and comprehend written materials. Write simple work orders. Decision-making skills. Evaluating information against industry standards. Learn additional skills on the job to advance toward upper-level position. Must be able to perform all the following physical tasks. Crawling daily for distances of up to 10 feet. Standing for intervals of 4 hours or more without rest. Reaching daily above shoulder height to retrieve, place or sort objects weighing more than 25 lbs. Walking for 4 or more hours of the shift. Minimum Qualifications A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Education and Experience High School diploma or equivalent required. Physical Demands:

The Bus Cleaner position involves occasional sitting (0.25-2.5 hours daily) but requires continuous standing and walking (5.5-8 hours daily). The role includes frequent reaching above shoulder level (2.5-5.5 hours daily) and continuous bending and stooping (5.5-8 hours daily). Employees must be able to lift and carry 0-10 lbs continuously (5.5-8 hours daily) and 10-20 lbs occasionally (0.25-2.5 hours daily), with no lifting over 20 lbs. Pushing and pulling are required frequently (2.5-5.5 hours daily), but fine manipulation is not necessary. Driving is not required. This position has a low stress level.
