Custodial & Landscaping Assistant (KCC STUDENTS ONLY)

JOB SUMMARY

The Custodial & Landscaping Assistant supports the Physical Plant Specialists in maintaining the outdoor spaces across campus. This position focuses on landscaping, groundskeeping, and general exterior upkeep to ensure campus grounds are safe, clean, and visually welcoming for students, staff, and visitors. This is a part-time Federal Work-Study position, with no more than 20 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Empty trash and recycling bins and replace liners as needed Assist with routine landscaping tasks including mowing, trimming, edging, and weeding Help maintain lawns, flower beds, shrubs, and trees across campus grounds Rake leaves, remove debris, and maintain clean walkways, parking areas, and outdoor spaces Assist with irrigation tasks such as watering plants and monitoring sprinkler systems Support seasonal grounds work Operate basic landscaping tools and equipment safely (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers) Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of tools and equipment Follow and enforce all KCC policies and procedures

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with outdoor event setup, including arranging tables, tents, or equipment Help with minor exterior maintenance tasks and report any damages or hazards Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS ROLE

Basic knowledge of cleaning procedures and safe chemical handling Basic knowledge of landscaping or groundskeeping practices Ability to safely operate or learn to operate landscaping tools and equipment Strong attention to detail to maintain clean and well-kept outdoor spaces Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an outdoor environment Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Must be currently enrolled at Klamath Community College (KCC). Must have completed the FAFSA for 2025-2026 academic year and been determined eligible for Federal Work Study.
