Job Summary Carrollton Regional Medical Center is seeking a dependable and safety-conscious Trash Technician to support the Environmental Services team. This position is responsible for the safe collection, handling, and disposal of general waste, biohazard waste, and recyclables throughout the hospital, helping to maintain a clean and sanitary environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Essential Functions and Responsibilities The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all-inclusive.
Key Responsibilities:
Collect and transport general, medical, and biohazard waste from designated collection points throughout the facility. Properly segregate, label, and dispose of different types of waste in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory guidelines. . Handle sharps containers and red bag waste using appropriate PPE and safety procedures. Maintain cleanliness and organization of trash collection areas, compactors, and waste storage rooms. Assist with the cleaning and disinfecting of waste receptacles and carts as needed. Complete assigned trash routes and document daily tasks. Report any safety hazards, spills, or unusual waste materials to the supervisor immediately. Support other EVS duties as assigned, including emergency cleanup response. Perform other related duties as assigned by management or supervisory staff. Supervisory Responsibilitie No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Prior experience in waste handling or environmental services, especially in a healthcare setting, is a plus. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, and push/pull heavy trash carts. Knowledge of infection control and hazardous waste handling protocols. Ability to work independently and follow instructions. Must be able to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. Strong commitment to safety, cleanliness, and confidentiality.
Working Conditions Physical Requirements:
Continuously stand/walk or lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight (20 to 50 lbs.).
Environment:
Located in an indoor/outdoor area with frequent exposure to mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature, and noise.
Respiratory Category:
Job tasks potentially include frequent or routine exposure to aerosolized particulate matter or infectious respiratory droplet nuclei and required fit testing and the use of respiratory protection is a condition of employment." Hazard 1, 2, or 3: OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Category 1: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and other potentially infectious materials. Hazard 4: Tasks that involve, or may involve, exposure to OSHA regulated substances as stated in MSDS. Physical Demands While performing the duties of the job, the teammate is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, twist, stoop and kneel. Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel, talk, or hear. Specific vision abilities include close, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 1.
