JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Environmental Services Superintendent, this position carefully supervises and evaluates daily and long-range work plans of subordinate personnel involved in providing cleaning/disinfecting as well as event setups/breakdowns in city buildings. Ensure all buildings are cleaned and disinfected per the cleaning guidelines of the Custodial Division. Ensure all departmental rules are adhered to by subordinates. Maintain well organized and accurate division records ranging from personnel records to weekly, monthly, semi-annual, and annual work plans. Assist in hiring and selecting personnel. Schedule, train, motivate, and assign subordinates their daily workloads. Mentor and hold subordinates accountable for all work expectations including personnel actions as necessary. Respond effectively and courteously to customers and manage complaints. Perform other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Supervise, mentor, coach, assist, and evaluate the work of subordinates involved in cleaning/disinfecting offices/buildings per the custodial guidelines as well as setups and breakdowns for events. Communicate courteously and effectively, verbally and/or in writing, with all city employees, officials, vendors, and the public. Use computer and various software applications, telephone, and standard business office equipment. Maintain accurate and well-organized written records, reports. With concurrence of the Superintendent, complete initial 30
  • 60• 90•days, 6-months, and annual employee performance reviews.
Assist in interviewing, hiring, and training of new staff members. Adjust employee schedules when necessary to meet the goals and objectives of the Custodial Division. Ensure setup of tables, chairs, stages, risers, audio equipment, and related equipment required for meeting rooms and breakdown and storage of the same are completed in accordance with the event timeframes and setup diagram. Supervise proper use and maintenance of custodial equipment such as electric and propane floor buffers/bonnet machines and extractor. Ensure proper procedures are followed for stripping and waxing of floors. Read, understand, and effectively convey written/verbal work instructions. Must use and ensure subordinates use sound judgment at all times. Provide input and propose purchase request of general supplies and equipment in the appropriate timeframes. Plan monthly safety meetings. Understand and correctly implement verbal and written job instructions and written product warning labels. Understand and effectively convey basic cleaning chemical interactive safety. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment. Pull, push, and/or drag up to 100 pounds of furniture and equipment for cleaning purposes only. Stand, kneel, squat, stoop, and/or twist for extended periods of time when needed to assist in repairs or setups and breakdowns. Some exposure to chemicals, dust, mites, fumes, and odor hazards, and using proper safety precautions and equipment. Supervisor work schedule may vary depending on the goals and objectives of the division.
REQUIRED EDUCATIONS, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES
High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate required. Texas Class C driver's license is required.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS
One (1) year of verifiable supervisory experience is required. Three (3) years of verifiable experience in cleaning/disinfecting and caring for buildings is required. Must be able to supervise effectively. Must be able to communicate courteously and effectively with other employees, the public, and officials. Must have ability to receive and transmit oral and written instructions effectively. Must be action oriented, supportive, and a positive leader that motivates and promotes a team oriented workforce. Must have ability to coordinate fast-paced custodial duties for personnel working under his/her supervision. Possess the necessary skills to operate computers, specifically: Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Must have knowledge of all types of cleaning chemicals, floor finishes, and their proper application.
Number of available positions:
1 High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate required. Texas Class C driver's license is required. One (1) year of verifiable supervisory experience is required.
