Ability to operate assigned cleaning equipment and tools. Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate in English and follow basic work instructions. Ability to perform a range of physical tasks, including reaching, grasping, squeezing, moving wrists, and overhead reaching for up to 6-8 hours per day, depending on job tasks and location requirements. Ability to stand and walk for 6-8 hours daily, including walking a total of 3-5 miles per day. Ability to kneel, squat, bend and stoop for 1-2 hours daily; push/pull and twist for 2-4 hours daily; and climb stairs or step ladders up to 2 hours per day depending on job tasks and location requirements. Ability to lift and carry items up to 30 pounds unassisted and 50 pounds assisted as needed throughout the workday. Required to work weekends and evenings as needed.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in either of the following: custodial, hospitality, environmental services, warehouse, production, or facilities maintenance. Knowledge of professional cleaning methods and techniques, including measuring and mixing cleaning chemicals Strong interpersonal communication, customer service, and willingness to be a team member. Basic computer skills. High school diploma or GED.Job Description:
The custodian position for the Department of Housing and Residential Life is responsible for high performance cleaning, including sanitization, washing, sterilization, and maintaining public spaces and restrooms within our residential halls, apartments, and other designated areas. This position will work in large areas, often with teams or on specific assignments. This position will work weekends, holidays, and earlier/later than scheduled shifts to meet department and university needs.Job Duties:
General Cleaning Work in all buildings managed by Housing & Residential Life, performing cleaning and porter services according to schedule or instructions while using safe and prescribed procedures. Sweep and clean building entrances and public areas. Empty trash and recycling and pick up litter. Use commercial custodial equipment, including but not limited to: backpack vacuum, floor machine, and auto-scrubber. Establish positive work relationships with supervisors and peers to provide excellent customer service. Service and restock restrooms throughout the day Safety & Security Secure buildings and rooms on schedule and/or after cleaning. Follow correct unlocking, locking, and alarm procedures. Carry your University ID during working hours. Special Events & Emergency Management Perform set-ups and breakdowns for special events. Provide emergency response and clean up for floods and other custodial emergencies. Fill in as required for other crew members and substitute for absent co-workers as needed. Mandatory overtime may be required with little or no advance notice. Other duties as assigned. Additional Information toApplicants:
