Food Handler Certification Full Job Description Part-Time Cleaner, Organizer & Prep Support Location:
Falls Church, VA Schedule:
12-20 hours/week (with potential to grow to full time for the right candidate) About the Role We're looking for someone who takes real pride in creating order, cleanliness, and flow. This is not a basic janitorial position — this role is critical to how our kitchen operates day-to-day. You'll be responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, health-compliant environment and helping build systems that keep it that way. If you're the type of person who walks into a messy space and instinctively starts fixing it — you'll thrive here. What You'll Own Daily Cleaning & Reset Dishes, dish pit, and dishwashing area (including behind/under equipment) Floors (BOH + FOH), including edges and under equipment Stations (surfaces, walls, and surrounding areas) Trash, recycling, and compost zones (full breakdown + reset) Sink cleaning and maintenance (including drains and strainers) Visual walkthroughs to ensure the space is reset and ready for service Deep Cleaning & Maintenance (Rotational) Ovens (deep clean) All baking equipment Drains (deep scrub + flush) Grease trap and hood cleaning support Walk-in fridge (clean + organize) Reach-in, cake, café, and storage fridges/freezers Ice machine cleaning Dish machine exterior + surrounding areas Stainless steel polishing Baseboards, doors, handles, and windows (inside/outside) Hallway + high-flour traffic zones Organization & Systems Dry storage: full pulls, resets, and ongoing organization "Utility room" (overflow/storage areas) — bring order and maintain it Maintain logical, labeled, and accessible storage systems Identify inefficiencies and suggest improvements Keep cleaning tools and supplies organized and stocked Light Prep Support (as needed) Basic food prep tasks to support the kitchen team Knife sharpening and tool upkeep Assist with simple production support when cleaning priorities are complete Requirements (Non-Negotiable) Previous experience in a commercial kitchen, bakery, or food service environment Working knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards (health department expectations) Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods Proven reliability, independence, and strong work ethic Preferred (Strongly Valued) ServSafe certification (or equivalent food safety certification) Experience with deep cleaning in a production kitchen environment Experience maintaining organized storage systems (dry + cold storage) Bilingual - Spanish/English What We're Looking For Highly detail-oriented — you notice what others miss Self-directed — you don't wait to be told what's dirty or disorganized Comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen environment Takes ownership of your space and maintains high standards Ideal Candidate Finds satisfaction in transforming chaos into order Understands that a clean kitchen = a high-performing kitchen Can balance checklists + independent thinking Takes initiative and improves systems over time Communicates clearly and respectfully with the team What You'll Get A structured, professional kitchen with clear standards Defined systems — and the opportunity to improve them Consistent schedule with growth potential Staff meals + product tastings A team that values quality, accountability, and doing things right To Apply Send your resume and a short note about: Your kitchen/food service experience Whether you hold a ServSafe (or similar) certification Why this type of role appeals to you
