Job Description

The Park Custodian maintains the cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of public parks and recreational facilities. This hands-on role involves sanitizing restrooms, collecting trash, removing debris, and performing light maintenance across indoor and outdoor spaces. Will also assist with event setups and report safety hazards to management. Thoroughly clean and disinfect park restrooms, pavilions, bathhouses, and community centers. Restock supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper. Sweep, mop, and pressure wash sidewalks, breezeways, and entryways. Empty trash receptacles, pick up litter, and remove graffiti or vandalism. Set up, arrange, and tear down tables, chairs, and equipment for special events or community gatherings. Routinely patrol areas to identify safety hazards, broken playground equipment, or facility damage. Perform minor maintenance such as replacing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, and clearing clogged drains. Depending on the location, may help with seasonal landscaping, mowing, edging, and snow removal on walkways. All work activities shall be conducted in compliance with the Safety and Accident Prevention Plan. Graduation from a standard high school, vocational school or the equivalent. Minimum of six (6) months prior janitorial experience.
REQUIREMENTS, CERTIFICATIONS, AND LICENSES
A valid State Driver's License and a clean driving record are typically required to operate maintenance vehicles.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS & ABILITIES
Often requires working non-traditional hours, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate peak park usage. Most work is performed outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions and may involve potential exposure to hazards such as moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes and airborne particles, chemicals, vibrations, extreme heat, extreme cold, disruptive people and may place the employee at risk of occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Must be comfortable working in all weather conditions and around cleaning chemicals, dust, and wildlife. The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Physical strength and ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor for extended periods of time under dirty and uncomfortable conditions in all types of weather, as necessary. Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and see. Will also perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, finger, knees, ankles, and feet. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. May work alone in dealing with public confrontations.
