POSITION
School Custodian, 8 hrs per day, 260 days per year (Night Shift +/- 2:30pm-11:00pm)
LOCATION
Valley View Elementary •This position is currently assigned to Valley View Elementary; however, the Ellensburg School District reserves the right to reassign classified staff as needed to maintain efficient operations.

Maintenance/Custodial Director/ Head Custodian
JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Maintenance/Custodial Director and the School Principal, and the immediate supervision of the Head Custodian; this position requires manual work relating to efficient performance of general cleaning and routine maintenance task. This job requires thorough execution of simple cleaning tasks which follow an established routine.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Vacuums carpet or sweeps and dust floors in classrooms, offices and halls. Empties all wastebaskets, pencil sharpeners. Check and restock paper product dispensers (toilet paper/towels) in classrooms and restrooms. Sweep and mop with disinfectant all restrooms/ nurses room floors. Cleans and disinfects all drinking fountains, toilet bowls, urinals, and sinks as above mentioned plus shines all chrome. Cleans doors, door knobs and windows inside and out whatever necessary. Spot cleans carpets, walls and floors as needed. Replace burned out light bulbs, when needed. Must be able to do some minor electrical and plumbing, however these tasks unless it is an emergency and depending on time should be left and reported/documented for the Head Custodian to perform the next day. Checks for vandalism daily and notifies Lead Custodian or Head Custodian depending on the situation of all vandalism to the facility. Secures all doors and windows and extinguished lights when leaving the facility at night. Seasonally, helps with small watering chores where needed and in winter helps to remove snow from the steps, walks and entrances to the various buildings. Occasionally your assigned areas may have to be modified to clean other areas of the facility due to lack of personnel. During vacation periods completely clean building interiors and exteriors by the use of various cleaning products and cleaning equipment, using both power and manual equipment. Walls, floors, woodwork, and all windows will be completely cleaned. Paints and redecorates classrooms, halls and other parts of the facilities. Performs other duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Knowledge of custodial and safety procedures Must have a basic knowledge of the operation and maintenance of high and low pressure boilers and basic knowledge of electrical and plumbing in case of an emergency and Head Custodian is not present. Skills in verbal and written communications. Ability to interact positively and confidently with students, staff and the general public. Must have knowledge of the care of floors, including sealing, waxing, and polishing. Must be willing to accept direction from Maintenance/Custodial Director and Head/Lead Custodian and respond to constructive criticism. Must be able to perform above assignments with a very small amount of supervision. Must be physically able to climb ladders (either step ladders or extension ladders to a height of 40 feet or the use of the district Genie Lifts.) Must be able to lift and carry object up to 50 lbs. in weight. Ability to be flexible, organized and manage time effectively. Must maintain neat, clean personal appearance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Must be at least eighteen years of age. Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Must pass and maintain clearance through a Washington State Patrol/FBI background check.
