JOB TITLE:
Custodian/Maintenance- 2026-2027 School Year Only
This temporary position is for one year only and is established to cover a leave of absence
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED required; related vocational training preferred. Experience in maintenance, custodial work, groundskeeping, construction, repair, or a related field preferred. Valid Washington State driver's license may be required. Must pass a criminal history background check as required by law and District policy.
NATURE OF THE POSITION
Performs custodial, maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping duties to help maintain district facilities, equipment, and grounds in a safe, clean, and functional condition.

Maintenance/Custodial/Grounds Supervisor
JOB GOAL
To support the maintenance and operation of district facilities, equipment, and grounds by performing custodial and semi-skilled maintenance duties, ensuring a safe, clean, and efficient environment for students, staff, and visitors.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Repairs, maintains, and improves district buildings, facilities, equipment, and grounds.
Assists in planning, coordinating, and completing maintenance and custodial projects as assigned.
Responds to work orders and maintenance requests under the direction of the Maintenance/Custodial/Grounds Supervisor.
Maintains adequate inventories of custodial and maintenance supplies and notifies the supervisor of supply needs.
Assists in the operation, maintenance, and repair of building systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, and structural components.
May assist skilled trades personnel in carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, welding, refrigeration, and other maintenance-related work.
Assists in the fabrication, installation, and repair of equipment, furnishings, and materials.
Operates hand tools, power tools, maintenance equipment, and district vehicles safely and effectively.
Participates in required training and professional development activities.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Be able to perform job tasks as follows:
Lift and carry 10-50 pounds frequently.
Assist with lifting and moving up to 100 pounds occasionally.
Load and unload materials, equipment, and supplies from vehicles and storage areas.
Push, pull, transport, and position equipment and materials.
Reach, bend, kneel, squat, twist, climb, and work in confined or awkward positions as necessary to perform assigned duties.
Work from ladders, lifts, or other approved equipment when required.
Stand and walk for extended periods during the workday.
Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Meet deadlines and respond to urgent maintenance and custodial needs.
The noise level in the work environment ranges from moderate to high.
The employee regularly works around machinery, equipment, cleaning chemicals, and maintenance tools.
Performs routine safety inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
Monitors and regulates heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to maintain appropriate temperatures and support efficient use of utilities.
Removes snow and ice and applies sand or de-icing materials to sidewalks, parking lots, driveways, and entrances as needed.
Checks daily to ensure exit doors, panic hardware, and other safety features are functioning properly during building occupancy.
Sweeps, mops, vacuums, dusts, and sanitizes classrooms, offices, and other assigned areas.
Cleans hallways, common areas, and high-traffic spaces as needed throughout the day.
Cleans and disinfects restrooms, sanitary fixtures, and drinking fountains.
Cleans interior and exterior windows as scheduled or as needed.
Maintains grounds free of litter, debris, and safety hazards.
Maintains floors in a clean, safe, and attractive condition.
Assumes responsibility for opening and securing buildings as assigned and ensures facilities are properly secured at the end of each workday.
Moves furniture, equipment, and materials as required for district operations and special events.
Maintains inventory records of assigned supplies and equipment and requests replacements as needed.
Reports safety concerns, vandalism, property damage, and major repair needs promptly to the supervisor.
LIMITS OF AUTHORITY
The Custodian/Maintenance employee works under the direct supervision of the Maintenance/Custodial/Grounds Supervisor, who assigns and prioritizes work responsibilities.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
LENGTH:
260 days.

SCHEDULE
6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. or as assigned by Maintenance/Custodial/Grounds Supervisor.
SALARY:
As established by the Board of Directors, applicable collective bargaining agreement, state law, and district policy.
EVALUATION
Annually by the Maintenance/Custodial/Grounds Supervisor in accordance with district procedures.
