Washington State Ferries (WSF) is an essential part of Washington's transportation network. Every year, we carry nearly 20 million passengers across Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands on more than 400 sailings a day. Our dedicated teams with over 2,100 people work together to serve our communities and shape the future of ferry travel. The Opportunity WSF, a division of WSDOT, is currently seeking a Janitor to support daily operations at Colman Dock in Seattle, the largest and busiest terminal in the Washington State Ferries system. This position plays a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for passengers, employees, and visitors while helping ensure uninterrupted terminal operations 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Working across a variety of shifts, the Janitor provides essential coverage for regular staff and assists with routine cleaning, special projects, and weather-related safety response. The work performed in this role directly contributes to reliable ferry service, positive customer experiences, and the overall success of WSF's public service mission. What to Expect Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you/the Janitor will: Clean passenger and auto level buildings, supervisors' offices, and employee break rooms. Sweep, mop, scrub, wax, and polish floors, walls, woodwork, furniture, and metal fixtures. Wash windows; vacuum rugs, curtains, and furniture. Clean restrooms, bathrooms, and toilet facilities; restock paper towels, soap, tissue, and related supplies. Operate vacuum cleaners, electric buffers, and other professional custodial equipment. Inspect lights, switches, plumbing, rugs, draperies, and furnishings; report repair needs or abuse of WSF property. Maintain inventory, requisition supplies/equipment, and keep assigned areas stocked. Perform minor maintenance repairs, lock/unlock doors, maintain transfer spans and walkways, follow safety procedures, attend training, and use electronic devices/computers for communication and documentation. Qualifications To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required: Licensing, Eligibility & Security Credentials Valid driver's license. Minimum age of 18 years at time of hire. Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within 60 days of hire. It is preferred that qualified candidates also have: Custodial Equipment Operation Experience safely operating cleaning tools and equipment such as vacuums, polishers, buffers, and other custodial appliances. Experience performing routine cleaning, floor care, or facility sanitation duties. Medium Machinery Operation Experience safely operating medium machinery such as scissor lifts, floor buffers, or similar equipment. Knowledge of basic safety procedures related to powered equipment use. Minor Maintenance & Facility Support Experience performing minor maintenance repairs, basic troubleshooting, or general facility upkeep. Experience identifying and reporting maintenance or safety concerns. Transportation / Public Facility Experience Experience working in terminals, transportation facilities, public buildings, or high-traffic environments requiring cleanliness, safety, and customer service. In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.
